High School stats are a poor indicator for future ability. Dont get wrapped up in this kid hit 20 bombs, or that kid was the Ace of the staff. Much to the dismay of many of you, West Tennessee pitching is subpar, comparitively speaking. Sure there are quality arms in West Tennessee, but there few and far between. The misleading part of this is: A good pitcher looks great in West Tennessee; A good hitter looks spectacular! Scouts at the next level have few oppertunities to truely evaluate talent here due to the lack of competition. Sorry folks, but its the truth.

The fact is a hitter is only in this game for a relatively short period of time unless he obeys the laws of physics and practices relentlessly. It doesn't matter where you go to high school. There are Summer teams, Area Code Games and certain showcases where a player can prove themselves alongside the best. That is where players from weaker regions need to go to be seen. Wood bats are the greatest equalizer of them all. It will be interesting when the BBCOR bats make their debut in high schools next year. The stats will suffer for sure then.

I believe teams from W. TN have had a tradition of doing very good in state tourneys....

 

 

Also, Matt Beaty would be a great player at any level....so would Dalton Potts of Greenfield. AND, Heath Crouse of Greenfield can hit the ball at any level...he's a very good hitter...good pitcher as well. Hopefully, Greenfield will be the next W. TN team to make a splash in the state tourney. Kind of like Decatur Co. Riverside did last year!!

He is good but Science Hill has the best rhp in the state. He's mentioned as one of the top 5 high school pitchers in this years draft. A projected first rounder.

Daniel Norris is ranked #1 in the nation under Perfect game for 2011 recruits. So saying that he has got to be very good and i'm sure going to be drafted. But saying all that this forum is about West Tn. players and what players to watch.

have you seen this kid play? single a or not i dont think the kid from northside went the whole year without striking out. he plays on a very elite summer team in west tennessee and dominates on that team as well. You put him in any class and he dominates. You also probably did not know he was intentionally walked at least 25 times and still hit twenty homeruns. The kid hit a bomb at union city in center field which is 400 feet in center(probably 450 feet) as a freshman. He cant help he plays at a small school. ask any coach in west tennessee and see what they say about him. you sir are mistaken.

 

He can hit the ball a ton. Gap to gap, power, you name it. He's also a great kid.

No doubt Gant is one of the best pitchers in the state. I seen him dominate in the state last year. He will go far if he keeps his arm healthy and doesn't pitch excessive innings.
