The Walters State Senators baseball team looks to be strong once again. They took 3-of-4 from Carson-Newman in fall ball, and they won the 2002 Tusculum Wood Bat Invitational last weekend. Mars Hill, Hiwassee, Tusculum, Milligan, etc. were there, and WSCC went 5-0. Their overall fall record was 17-4-1, with only two losses coming against their #1 team. The pitching has been strong behind returning starting hurlers Eric Blevins (Sullivan East) and Brad Rose (Knox Halls), but the hitting was suspect. Same story in fall ball last season, but the hitting came alive in the regular season to the tune of a .396 team average. Boodle Clark (Tennessee High) and J.D. Adams (Dobyns-Bennett) were the bright spots offensively for the Senators. Looks like Coach Campbell has the Big Red rolling toward another top-5 ranking this season as well.
