MUS vs. South Panola (Predictions and thoughts)

MUS lost 19-7. The defense made the adjustments after half, but the offense didn't produce much. MUS is 1-2 with losses to Ensowrth and SP. I think MUS is better off now though because of those two losses. MUS is young and I think they learned a lot in those two losses. If MUS stays healthy I think they can win the rest of their games and make it to the championship game.

I agree that MUS is (should be, anyway) a better team, as a result of having played two tough teams. At least they now should be acutely aware of their weaknesses and strengths, then take steps to zero-in on these respective areas.

---------------------------------------

One glaring weakness: receivers and kick-off coverage.

MUS' receivers dropped entirely too many passes, ALL NIGHT LONG, particularly on critical 3rd downs and in the 2nd-half when desperately needing to sustain drives and build momentum for a comeback versus South Panola. The kickoff-coverage team, for the second straight week, allowed another cheap touchdown! That's got to be fixed.

Other than the above issues, I genuinely believe that the backup QB (#12, I think) made a super strong case for being the starter! Oh sure, he's not perfect; the offense team just seemed to really get in better sync and perform much better and more efficiently with the 2nd-string QB at controls.

Coincidence?

I think not...

MUS' strength appears to be its defense.

Oh sure, the Owls' defense gave two or three big running plays. That happens to all good defenses at some point. Nevertheless, they regrouped and pitched a shut-out during the 2nd-half! That's pretty darn good, in my view. In fact, the defense actually kept the Owls in the game -- giving up only 2 touchdowns. That, too, is an excellent outing.

There is no doubt in my mind that MUS has all the goods with which to become a bona fide Title Contender. In order to make that a reality, however, it's absolutely imperative that they minimize their weaknesses and maximize its offensive productivity. Based on their track record, I strongly suspect that the coaching staff and players will quickly address these issues and that the Owls will legitimately emerge as a stronger, more potent team.

    • Hey Turtle did you see Stanton on channel 10 last at 11:00? He did a good job selling AE's need for new facilities. Looks like they are gonna get them. Glad for them!
    • I heard they have most of their team coming back. Who is the next coach?  Also, what about Chester County? That one has been open for a while.  Gibson County also???
    • Marion had no answer for groves last year and he’s added a lot of weight since last year already. And the other groves Marion couldn’t block…he’ll be back.
    • Hmmmmm……doe dee doe doe….i drove the lawnmower down to practice today…….hmmmm…… we got some new faces………. One can run faster than my lawnmower in fifth gear…… a few will be disappointed come November that they jumped ship and went down to that sewage facility……. You can bet the lawnmower on that.
    • I don't know what's going on in the town of McMinnville, but I've read this and it's disturbing.  I'm a "player" person, and I want what's best for the player. If a player gets cut off the team because she said the "F word" then good grief. I mean, come on guys. I wish there was a way for the player to transfer to a different program and just play ball. There are a lot of athletes that are stuck because they're in crappy situations regarding their team/coach. This is player just happens to be one them.
