The problem in 'Metro' is multi-faceted.

1. Schools do not have the 'neighborhood' feel of old.

2. Little discipline. That I blame of both the administration that does not bear down and the teachers UNION itself.

3. Little Parental involvement and support.

4. Gangs competeing for the kids themselves.

5. Teachers being able to hang on because of 'tenure'.

6. Coaches who are not that good but stay in Metro with its low pay because they really have no where else to go. You see this with how many have tried to 'escape' to the surrounding county systems.

7. Lack of student support on game night. This also applies to some schools in the surrounding counties. This is because alot of kids are working instead of just being allowed to be kids.

8. MONEY!!!!! Both for coaches and facilities and the support for the kids to lift and grow stronger for one PE period each day.

Until all of the above changes I will keep saying the outside schools "SHOULD" win!

Most importantly Rankin is NOT my beloved coach. If you go back to the time he was at R'dale I questioned him then and voiced my opinion/opposition to his NOT helping the kids who play for him to move on to college and his NOT getting on and benching kids because of failing grades. In this the new HC at R'dale is a WAY better Coach.

Clear now? Not knocking your Coach or school as I think the whole argument you and taco have been having has been a waste of time and band width. My comment was just a view from outside looking in if it was at ANY school outside Nashville. <_<

some of the analysis is not correct.... metro coaches make more money than williamson county, sumner county and i believe wilson county... metro is not the only place where kids can't lift during the day - williamson and maury fit that description....

where i agree with you is the good ol boy network... metro recycles coaches... are some of them decent? of course - but the tendency to recycle guys with .500 records or worse is telling

metro needs new blood - if any is willing to risk it

Coaching in metro is a tough job,not many want to fight the battles.

No truer words were ever spoken. Trust me, I know. But from a macro view, the analysis is pretty good.

The challenges in Metro are, in my opinion, much greater than in any of the surrounding counties.

That said, there are a few, a very small group, that are in Metro that are just taking up space and supplements. But it's been that way forever. The large majority of the Metro coaches are fighting the "battles" every day, some trying to control the things they cannot control, in an effort to make a positive difference.

Those are the ones, no matter what the record, that are winners.

I'm not sure this is true anymore. I think there have been several coaches that would like to coach in metro but can't crack the system because they are not "metro guys." But, the pay is good and the expectations are low - why would anyone that doesn't have bigger goals want to leave?

On a different note, there is a heck of a story waiting to be written about the horrendous behavior of a particular student body at a recent game. I saw you there and you even witnessed some of the worst show of sportmanship that anyone ever witnessed run right past you at the end of the game. The amazing part is how well the other side handled it all.

    • You didn't spell Greeneville and Elizabethton correctly in your sentence.  4A has the best teams in Upper East TN.  Carter County All-Stars and Greene County All-Stars is the Superbowl now.
    • Yeah, but if he goes to Science Hill they are guaranteed at least a win over Kingsport and that's basically the NET Superbowl
    • I expect Sevier County might be pretty good, perhaps Mo West as well.     But I don't see either of them getting out of round 2.          The rest of the region gets smoked in round 1.            Except for those once-in-a-blue-moon anomaly years the NET big schools are pretty much the same every season.
    • Wanted to see if all of you would lift up Kyle James family in prayer. Kyle was one of the best wrestlers to ever come out of Soddy Daisy and as some of you know he lost his house a few weeks ago and now his family and friends mourns his passing. Not sure if any of you were around in early 2000’s when Kyle was wrestling at Soddy, but he was a 3 time state champ and a Fargo AA along with going to Colorado to train to make the Olympic team. That goal was never reached due to medical issues, but he was an amazing wrestler and his family is as good as gold. If you were around at that time and have any pictures of Kyle, please go onto Alexy Winesburgh FB page and post. Thanks, Doug Benton
    • My opinion the 8 teams will be-  Greenback, Wartburg, Gordonsville, Jo Byrns, Eagleville, Bruceton, Dresden, and South Fulton. Gordonsviile is probably the favorite but I wont say it will be an easy road. With the right draw any of the 8 could win it.
