TCA's Anna Renfroe signs with Lady Vols for softball

http://www.jacksonsun.com/article/20111110/SPORTS/111100302/1006/rss02

Anna Renfroe has one more season to play for Trinity Christian Academy's softball team, but the Lady Lions' senior solidified her future after high school when she signed to play softball at the University of Tennessee.

She will join her two older sisters, Ivy and Ellen, in Knoxville. While the other two are pitchers, Anna will probably be a utility player.

"We haven't really talked about any specific position," Renfroe said. "We've talked some about outfield and even second base, which is what I've played in travel ball.

Kentucky Signs Silverdale Star

http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2011/nov/12/kentucky-signs-silverdale-star/

Katie Henderson on Friday became the first athlete from Silverdale Baptist Academy to sign scholarship papers with an NCAA Division I school when she fulfilled a pledge she made last December and signed to play softball at Kentucky.

She first visited the campus in Lexington at the end of November a year ago.

"I really loved the campus, and the coaches were great, too," Henderson said. "I love that they put an emphasis on sports and academics and want us to work hard. They're really big about work ethic and trying to get better."

Grace's Cowart, Bruisers' Boyd to play for ETSU

http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2011/nov/16/graces-cowart-bruisers-boyd-to-play-for-etsu/

GPS's Madison Boyd and Grace Academy's Bethany Cowart signed softball scholarship papers with East Tennessee State University in the last few days.

Boyd took a January visit to the Johnson City campus, although she said she had been a few times before because her sister, Ashley, had initially signed with the Buccaneers.

"I just absolutely loved it. The coach is awesome," Boyd said of Brad Irwin, who left his position as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga to become ETSU's head coach in July 2010. "He's really the main reason I want to go there, because of the connection I made with him."

Cowart took her visit in August.

"Honestly, I can't think of anything bad about the campus," Cowart said. "I liked everything about it. The coach was great. He was real hospitable when it came to showing me around."

Boyd and Cowart both play center field on their high school teams. They also are summer teammates with the Tennessee Fury organization, with Boyd playing right field.

    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
    • What is the hold up here? I have not heard anything in weeks. Are they waiting for the right person or is something else going on?
    • Per usual, we'll be hard to beat in the regular season, I'm sure. It's the post season that I'm more worried about, specifically the coaches. Maybe they'll be able to make some adjustments that will keep the momentum in our favor. How's Grays recovery coming along?
    • Something don’t add up here a college coach is not going to turn away a good player they need just because they didn’t get along with their high school coach
    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
