YOU might think so, but some rumors say that ward was not only here at BA in the last 2 wks but the head master went to TX this past wk. I have 5 football players at my house as i type this and they all say the same thing but who knows, maybe just rumors but the foremost qualification for the job, and i heard this 1st hand, is the next coach must 1st and foremost be a strong christ follower. Charlie fits that mold. Again only hearing some rumors and could all be nothing. That said, i would be surprised if this is not resolved within the 1st 1-2 wks after the holiday break

Kurt was in Texas for a wedding, but I would be surprised if he didn't take a stop to talk to CharIe while he was down there.

See there you go- just a rumor on our end. In any case, I only hope in the hiring process we think about what attributes a "true" winning coach should have - i see lots of notes here about wanting a coach that wins and i want to win as much as the next guy BUT the winning will take care of itself given our talent, IF we have a coach who coaches with leadership attributes and earns the respect of our kids. We need someone who the kids will follow into a battle regardless of the odds or obstacles. Leaders win games and they succeed in life.

Had the chance to come up this weekend and visit a bit with a few BA friends. Sounds like everything will work out just fine, unless something changes.

Here is a link to an article in the Brentwood Home Page about the search . . .

http://www.brentwoodhomepage.com/ba-coaching-job-draws-over-70-applicants-cms-7554

Nice when a local journalist can devote nearly 2,000 words to a local story. Really tells the complete story about the search. Bigger rags would have devoted 1 or 2 sentences. Kudos to the Brentwood paper.

Welcome aboard Big Dog!! First of all, I'm pretty well certain there are more than just the two that would like to see him at BA... I suppose all the new facilities and field turf went in because he has been doing such a bad job, in your opinion. I have a great deal of respect for JPII, they have an uphill battle in this division, but I see players who stick with their program and work hard every year to make it better. It takes time and as they grow over the years, these young men will find more and more success as they stick together.

You say you have studied the stats; I gave specific examples about his record. Tell me what I missed? I see that in a five year or so span, the man won two state titles, which is a pretty darn good percentage. He had one down year during that time. Even BA has had down years. I think KWood said it pretty well earlier when, as an MBA fan, he would hate to see him at BA. His comments are usually very insightful. I also said earlier that I would not have a problem with promoting from within. If we were to do so, it needs to be someone with a great offensive mind, because Coach Potter handled most of that himself. This was a big part of his downfall. We are LOADED with defensive minds, great line coaches on both sides and we have a strength and conditioning program like no one else. Defense has not been our problem, an unpredictable offense has been. This is why I have looked for a person who has had success in their career, on the offensive side of the ball. A good place to start is someone who played at the highest levels and won. It is also a pretty good bet to find someone who has won as a coach. Look, he beat BA time and time again. If you beat coach Flatt, you have achieved something in the first place. To say Coach Rutledge is a horrible coach is the same as saying Coach Flatt was in his final years too. That makes no sense at all.

However, every time I mention Coach Rutledge, I get very sketchy, disparaging comments about him from people who seem to have an axe to grind. I don’t see a ground swell of that from people who have been on here for a while. Those things have caused me to take a closer look at the man and I think he would be an even better fit for us than I originally thought. I was just throwing a name out at first. I have never met the man, but I like what I have found out thus far. Tell me what I missed..

Just to add another side note to the Coach Rutledge story. As of Christmas break he has now lost two QB's to other schools. Our possible starter for the 2012 season left to go play at a public school (will be a Sr this year) and our old defensive end is now the stating QB at Brentwood.

Besides QB's we had two other starters quit the team last year.

Just Saying?

Just a thought...As BA looks for a AD/HC combo and the MBA fallout continues, BA should focus more now an separate AD and HC. A HC at a DIIAA school cannot be attentive enough to the athletic dept like he should. During football season the AD/HC combo really does not care about the girls volleyball team or the boys soocer team. His focus is x's and O's. A true AD can address anything at anytime in the athletic program and has better oversight.

I know MBA has a separate AD and HC. The responsibility in their situation lies on the AD's shoulders where it should.

With the pressure, microscope and the disdain of the T$$AA for DIIAA, a strong AD is paramount.

BA and MUS are the only 2 DIIAA schools without a separate AD. It's important to keep the T$$AA out of their hair in the future due due to a inattentive head football coach that plays the role as an AD. BA should find a AD 1st then a HC.

Excuse me if it has already been mentioned. What about Brad Perry? Where is he and would he be a candidate for the job? Great guy, went to school with him at Tech.

Sorry, I went back and started from page one and ran into the Brad Perry story. Thanks

Brad was the offensive coordinator under Coach Flatt, and called the plays for the last BA team to win a state championship. Once Potter came in, he completely took over all of the responsibilities that Brad had. Brad soon left the varsity team and began to coach for the middle school presumably because he felt ran out. I have heard that Brad has applied for the job, and is a candidate. He was a good offensive coordinator and is a fantastic man. He is a very Godly man, and is loved by almost all his students. Brad is one of the few men that I can honestly say I have never heard a bad thing about. I think he deserves a good consideration.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
