District 11 AAA

Franklin beat Centennial 8-3 tonight. Robertson looked strong on the mound for the Rebels apart from one inning where the Cougars got all their runs. Evans threw for CHS, made effective use of the curveball but was hit pretty well up and down Franklin's lineup, with the Rebels out-hitting the Cougars 11-3. Anyone know the score of the BHS-Indy game?

Standings heading into Tuesday's games:

1. Brentwood (10-2)

2. Franklin (7-5)

3. Centennial (7-5)

4. Independence (6-6)

5. Ravenwood (5-8)

6. Hilsboro (0-9)

- Frankin can clinch the 2 seed with a win and an Indy loss tonight, CHS will clinch at least the 3 seed with an Indy loss tonight. Brentwood has officially clinched the district title. RHS can still get the 4 seed if Indy is swept.

District standings heading into last day of the regular season:

1. Brentwood (10-3) *clinched district title

2. Franklin (8-5)

3. Centennial (7-6)

4. Independence (7-6)

5. Ravenwood (6-8) *locked into 5 seed

6. Hilsboro (0-10) *locked into 6 seed

Scenarios:

- If FHS and Indy both win, FHS will be 2 seed, IHS 3, and CHS 4

- Regardless of FHS/CHS game, if Indy loses, FHS will be 2, CHS 3, and Indy 4

- If FHS loses and Indy wins, there will be a 3-way tie for second place, and who knows how that will work out (coin flip?)

Indy will take the 2nd seed because they would have been the only team to beat the #1 seed. Indy has played Brentwood very tight twice. last night's 3-2 game wasnt that close. Indy gave up 2 runs in the sixth that shouldnt have scored in the first place. Monday night's game was one by two solo HR from Bunton and Whitt but one was a routine fly out caught by the wind. this last game should be a good one with Indy having senior night with arguably its best pitcher of the year on the mound against whoever Bwood has left. The Indy faithful are in for a show tonight

#2 seed is not determined by how the teams play against the #1 seed, it is firt based on record and then second with head-to-head tiebreakers . In the case with three teams tied and the tiebreakers cancelling things out it would probably go to a coin-flip but I'm not sure. Just so you know, Franklin and Centennial have both won games against Brentwood too, Indy is not the only team to accomplish this.

You have no clue, CHS and FHS both beat Brentwood as well!

Your first scenario is correct.

Your second scenario is correct.

Your third scenario is where there is some confusion amongst everyone.

Typically with a 3 way tie is determined by how teams performed against higher seeded teams. In this case, Indy would have beaten Brentwood twice, which gives them the # 2 seed. Then it would go head to head with Franklin and CHS and Franklin would be the # 3 seed and CHS # 4 seed.

I'm not sure how the district has it set up, but I have never heard of it going to common opponents before head to head is considered. If it is that way, it is pretty stupid. If it is that way, you could end up seeded higher than a team that beat you more than you beat them. I have no idea where things stand in the district as far as that goes, but head to head should always be first consideration in case of a tie. I would think that was one of the main reasons the district went to a three game series. There is a clear better team that way.

You must not have been around that long then. It is common place in a 3 WAY TIE that the team who has the best record against teams above them is seeded first. Once it is back down to two teams then it goes to head to head.

I'll take Indy vs. Brentwood in the final. The Eagles have been playing some good baseball the last week and look for it to carry over. Coach Moore will have his guys ready to go. Unlike Centennial, Indy will be prepared for the bunt against Franklin.

Dont forget ravenwood who were the obvious better team vs indy. Won 2 out of 3 but gave the 3rd game away with walks and errors, like they have done in many other games this year. They have won 8 out of last 9 and look for them to make a push in the district tournament, if they win the play in game.

    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
