Bradley and Blackmon an instant classic...almost.

Honestly, nobody wants to see a hard fought game between two teams come down to that. However, my point was that for what it was, it HAD to be called. Honestly, I'm sure most Blackman fans have as hard of a time believing that Coach Wortman did that as BC fans believe their player did what has been said. For a guy that rarely shows much emotion anytime, would seem like a stretch. Maybe it was an assistant. Maybe he was celebrating going to the tourney with somebody and they were close to a BC fan. I highly doubt he walked over to a BC fan and laughed right in their face. I didn't see that because I was watching 2 grown men chasing officials all the way across the court....but BC fans aren't sore losers though. sorry just had to slide that last one in. :)

If we were sore losers...where are the posts and drama from the other games that have been lost. Come on man. Is that the best you got?

I don't remember Blackman's coach getting run out of the gym by a Sheriffs Deputy. I guess that runners high must have been a little too much to handle. :popcorneater:

BTW your school will be fined because of YOUR actions.

I didn't get escorted out by any sherries deputies, I said my piece and then was grabbed and told to walk away and I did just that. MULTIPLE emaisl have been sent to the TSSAA to investigate this call at the end of the game. If for no other reason than for this official to be at the very least asked about this call. The other two officials had NO IDEA what the tech was called for as they were asked as well. Their response " I didn't make the call, I don't know". This official apparently wanted to make his priority to alter history and well he did just that.i watch approximately 6-8 basketball games a week and have never seen a worse call. And as for the Blackman coach laughing in a BCHS fans face and smiling it is 100% accurate. He laughed in a 73 year old preachers face. pathetic.

1) There is no way of knowing who would have won in OT, both teams where equally matched, that’s why you go to overtime.

2) I see no problem with Bradley’s coach saying nor does it question the ref’s integrity, that the coach doesn’t know if anything was said or not because that’s effectively what the closest ref said by not calling the T himself. Having been told and knowing of something first hand are different.

3) No way Bradley’s coach tolerates this if he knows it, he's yanked too many chains,

4) Last night’s technical was this young man’s first, I believe.

5) The act that caused the technical was not noticeable by 95% of the people, which is part of the challenge here. Only after alerting the scorer’s table that then made the announcement did most including Blackmon’s coach know what happened.

6) I thought Blackmon’s staff and coaches did a good job with managing the crowd and game, despite a random few that should not indict the whole,

7) Both are exceptional coaches and teams,

8) The ref that made the call was overturned by the ref closest to this action on at least one previous occasion.

9) No one on this post would ever condone F bombs, GDs etc. and yet they happen and I and some on this post have dropped one or two in less stressful circumstances…

10) Unlike 99% of all other calls in a season, with 1.5 seconds in a season and career ending non action call, there should be no gray here whatsoever, none, zero, natta and in Jack Nicholson’s words…are we clear, yes…ARE WE CLEAR, CRYSTAL.

And that’s where the fun begins here. If an off the court in timeout “technical†act was worthy of effectively ending any team’s season, how can 95% of the fans, coaches, players and including all but one lone official be unaware of it. Is it that he and he alone went looking for it, and behold found it? The closest ref heard nothing, so is it possible (maybe not probable) that this Bear dropped anything other than an F bomb, or is it possible (maybe not probable) that he dropped it or anything other on himself teammate or anyone other than the ref closet to him that heard nothing. If you are going to take a game, season, career out of the hands of its players and coaches, you would like to have greater clarity than was present last night.

Indian....

As runnershigh has stated, the official was at least 30 ft away, standing by Bradley Centrals coach. There is no possible way that he Heard anything...if something was even said. The fact that you have something to say about Coach Kent Smiths comments in an article, basically means YOU are questioning the intregrity and behavior of one of the most highly thought of, well respected, honest, fair, and MOST TALENTED, high school basketball coaches you will evert hear of. After his many years of state tourney visits and 2 state runner up titles, a Mr. Basketball winner, and 2 other nominees...and Kent's 400th win with only 130 losses in his career....which made him the "winningest coach in Bradley central men's basketball history"....8 regional titles...and there were 5 or 6 consecutive years that Bradley Cental didn't lose a home game. The players have been Kent's family and he has built relationships over the years and watched the boys grow up to be men. One of those men are now on his coaching staff and the others come to quite a few games per year. So Indian, this dynasty...this reputation...and the tradition of Bradley Central, the coaches, the players, the fans, the parents, the families, the coaches families, all beloved bears...stand by Kent Smiths comments. We all know he wouldn't say anything that would hurt the reputation of the Bears but more importantly, something dis honest or come off as a sore loser, that's not who he is nor is it who he wants those boys who play for him to be. You may question what Smith said but, I would question a "ref" whom no one knows. The "ref" made a huge mistake, end of story. Random official< Kent Smith. Moving on.....

Looks like somebody has a crush!

Also, when should a referee stop refereeing? Aparently at 1.5 seconds left then the officials should stop blowing the whistle. I always thought about 2 minutes to go in the game just have a free for all.

Once again to borrow the words of BLACKMANS WOMENS COACH......The game SHOULD NOT have ended like this. PERIOD. He DIRECTLY said this to me. To decide a game like this is terrible. TRADITION that is something that maybe the Blackman fans do not understand. BRADLEY HAS TONS OF IT! A lot of BCHS fans dont even have family or friends on the team yet they still travel to see their team. All we can hope for is a fair game for the kids and for 31 minutes 58.5 seconds we got that, but that final 1.5 seconds will forever alter these kids lives. The seniors will never forget the night in Murfreesboro when they were robbed of the chance to play the game they love.

I know what I saw and it has been confirmed by multiple people. If 5% of the people there saw it then that's well over 100 people that would have seen it, so pretty reliable if you asked me. I guess my biggest deal with it is the perspective of the situaton. The player in question is the one that cost them the game, not the official. Maybe if the ref would have T'd him up in the first half he would have kept his mouth closed at the end. The ref did his job...watching the bench area during a time-out. Watch any bball game...during timeouts there is one official watching each bench. Unfortunately, what will get lost in the rhetoric is that it was a great game between two good teams.

Well, this has devolved into a He said - She said peeing contest so I'm out. Congrats to Bradley on a great season. I guess we'll see you at your place this fall for the return football trip.

Not a he/said she said contest. Just the truth. No explanation by the ref at the scorers table. PERIOD. The Blackman coaches had no idea. This ref had his calls overturned on more than one occasion. He will be sanctioned for this horrendous blunder. PERIOD.

I realize Blackman's coaches had no idea. They were getting their team together in the time out. Their focus was on how to draw up a decent look with 1.5 seconds, not looking at Bradley's bench. And officials don't routinely give reasons for T's, nor do they have to. They go over, make the T signal give number and award 2 shots. I remember one time he was overturned, but if that is motive, wouldn't you think he would have overlooked it. If he was mad at the guy for overturning him, why would he have his back when a player cusses him? makes no sense.

And when he is sanctioned for this "horrendous blunder" please respond back and let us know....I won't hold my breath.

Sorry to say but the TSSAA will not do anything to this ref or any other ref. Gene Menese(sp) at TSSAA wants to blame everything on coaches, players and fans so he can fine them and collect $$$ to pay his meaningless position. He has said "we don't have enough officials now, we can't not renew them". He also will not look at film of any game where the ref has blown calls or been responsible for the game's outcome. If he gets a name of a fan, coach or player he will act for sure so he can get some $$$ in fines. It is a shame that refs can and do control outcomes of games. I have seen it all over the state for several years now. "They are not employed by the TSSAA, but contractors hired by schools". Another quote directly from our TSSAA employee in charge of officiating. What a joke!

    • Dyersburg is going to be good, really good. As mentioned, they have a lot of talent on the way and the trio of Chelby, Joya, and KayKay will only be better with a full season together under their belt. To me, playing in Murfreesboro two consecutive postseasons will only serve to make them more dangerous if/when they stand among the final eight teams this March. Experience, good or bad, always makes you better. And not only do they have experience, they know how to win there. Schedules are coming together for all of the teams and I am excited about what I am seeing on the preliminary drafts on Dyersburg’s schedule. I know I am being a tease, but it’s simply not my place to announce what another school is doing. With that said, I won’t go into specifics. However, I am excited about renewed home and away contracts for the non-district portion of the calendar. I think west Tennessee will have a lot of interest as well.
    • What does everyone have in the final 8? In no particular order. 1. Eagleville 2. Gordonsville 3. Greenback 4. Oakdale 5. South Pitt/ East Robertson-- not sure 6. Richland 7. Halls 8. Union City
    • They struggled to field a team last year. I don’t see them being much better?
    • sx good two know thay didun't waint that entarr citty two see yeller/red......
    • Couldn’t agree more.. Tate is a special kinda player , but fortunately for us we get a best of 3 series. I think our pitching is better than last year when we made the trip to west tn. Should be a fun 2 or 3 games.
