Wartburg may fall off more than just to the middle of the pack. Mine doesn't play anymore so I'm a little out of the loop but I'm hearing that the team is having some internal problems. But that's usually what Davis is good at handling so we will have to wait and see. I wouldn't want to be those causing issues on the team if he is like he used to be they won't be there very long.

I would say that the Wartburg girls need to be very thankful for their good luck the last few years and keep a great work hard and don't complain attitude. Right now I'm hearing they arent.

If that is true Wartburg will be 4th or 5th this year regular season come tourney time who knows.

Kazamizer is guardedly optimistic about the Lady Indians chances. Think the pieces are there for a good little run, but I'm sure with maturity this crew is going to be a tough game for anyone. The frontcourt can be formitable if they play within themselves. My guess is backcourt can be very good if everyone involved gells. One thing for sure.....Coach West will figure out how to make it work.

I agree with you Kaz, I'm not sure why Oneida lost their last coach. I really felt she was a really promising young coach that could have become a great one. That said West is proven and an excellent motivator. I would say that this gives this district a great collection on girls coaches. That is good for the kids in 4A and it should be a good year to watch.

Just curious how the landscape is right now with the girls teams. Any pre-season scrimmages or play days that gives a reflection of where your team is at right now. I know Oneida went to C-Range the other day and did not fare as well as they would like, but playing those quality teams will help them for sure. I wasn't at the play day but I've heard there were some bright spots and progress was coming. I heard some stuff about Wartburg the other day (about struggling in a scrimmage) but I thought absolutely nothing of it. (source wasn't that reliable) OS fans have no opinion of the Lady Bobcats? Oakdale has gotten better since this summer. I don't think they will be as good as last year but......

Kaz, News out of The Burg last week was optimistic. Beat Montery by 1, Beat Harriman by 30-40, and Lost to C-Range by 20 i beleive. As for OZ. Played at webb last week, Beat Oak Ridge by about 20 then Played Karns and beat them by 40 or 50. Dont beleive Wart goes anywhere this weekend But OZ travels to Riverdale in the Boro. They play Cannon County, Upperman, and Red Boiling Springs Sat.Well see how it goes. Havent heard any news out of oakdale. But they looked better than I thought they would be at RSCC this summer. Thompson is gonna have to learn life without the ball in her hand all the time. She just creats so well for everyone around her. But my oh my can she stroke it!!

I'm interested in the Oz-Oak Ridge scrimmage......have the Wildcats taken a serious nosedive? I can't imagine Oak Ridge falling that far in basketball ever. That isn't poking at Oz either it's just Oak Ridge is ....well.....Oak Ridge. The Lady Indians lost to C-Range by nearly the same score as Wart, but Coach West appears to be locating the players he needs, so there hasn't been much urgency for them to narrow the field in the pre-season.

Kaz,

OR has taken a downhill slide. But they arent terrible. They will compete in that district, I would predict prob a 4 or 3 finish. The new coach over there might have seen her last days. I could see them calling for a new coach soon. Just like you said OR is OR. But oz played decent in that game. Did Oneida play this past weekend? From what I heard from parents at OZ is that they have a senior post that didnt play at Riverdale. Beat Cannon County by one, Lost to upperman by 8, JV beat cascade pretty handly in a 20 min half, then varsity beat Beech 31-17 in the other 20 min half.

OR should never fall far from being elite.....those two middle schools are big and both of them together should have plenty of suitable players to keep that program humming. Oh well, I've seen two of those you mentioned this summer (Beech, Cannon), so not too surprised about those results. Upperman is usually very good. The Lady Indians did not scrimmage this weekend....believe their first game is Tuesday on the road at Washburn.

Lady Indians are off to a solid start. Won both HOF games (Washburn and Monterey). They are obviously still finding their footing because they have been hot and cold. I think they will be a tough game for anyone in January when they start settling into their roles. The 15 point win against Monterey was the most impressive of the two.....Williams was very aggresssive on the boards and she will have to keep playing that way. I'd love for this site to be chat friendly this season.....as I can't always go to the games. (I guess that is everybody else too, huh?) Luck to this districts girls teams.

How is Sale Creek....?

Saw (Sale Creek) play OS and OS won fairly easy. OS had a larger lead than the score actually ended up being.OS played some younger kids and Sale Creek pressed them. But until then it was about 23 or something like that. They have one player #5 I think her mom is the coach is pretty good, other than that good size, not much speed, their guards struggled against OS.

    • Won't happen. College coaches will back the coach every time and it cost this young lady her senior season. Looks like the player may be right on this one. School let her  go after one season. This stuff happens more than you think.
    • “No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team.” For language? I’m not seeing that as a dealbreaker.
    • Why did the coach get rehired after she was let go as an assistant by the former Warren County coach and the current AD?? Is that accurate?? I am very familiar with situations like this. Suprised lawsuits haven't happend before. If the coach unfairly let the player go, I think she has a shot because it cost her a scholarship. No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team. Not going to happen. There are bad hires like this a bunch and kids are treated unfairly by coaches that can't coach a lick and have super long ropes somehow. Amazing how some of these coaches get hired and keep their job.
    • I am going to assume you are not a lawyer, and most reasonable lawyers would not say the lawsuit has a zero percent chance in court. I agree with you that a coach has the ability to dismiss anyone from a team. However, Ms. Winfree was never presented with the opportunity to present her witnesses and have them tell the coaches and administrators what they heard. A lawyer could better explain the lawsuit and the grounds to you. Before you start making wild assumptions about the lawsuit, would it be too much to ask that you do a little legal research first? The lawsuit is dealing with due process, loss of property, and defamation.   You can read the lawsuit here: https://bdnewsletter.files.wordpress.com/2024/04/doc-1-complaint-filed-4-18-2024.pdf
    • The administration took the path of backing the coach and whispering to people that the kid was a problem. The reality is that the kid was never a problem on a team or classroom. The player says she has witnessed who back her not saying the f-word.  Why did the coach make that story up and other stories? I am not Sigmund Freud and do not have an answer for the ex=-coach's behavior..
