doctorno
Who are the teams to watch in the 13 and 14 boys division? Where will the state be at this year? In the 13u/7th grade division, to be played in Memphis, May 18-20, at least one of the teams to beat would be Athletes for Orphans or "A4O" (formerly Team 147). A4O signed up in the Nashville substate and no one else signed up - they all went to Clarksville. A4O is 8-0 in tournaments this season (26-1 overall) and two of the tournaments were 14u/8th grade. Team Nashville (I think they used to be The Legends) and the Music City Players (the only team to beat A4O - they have split 1-1 this season) are also two very good middle Tennessee teams. The Memphis Wareagles are always very strong in the west. I don't know much about the east Tennessee teams but Team Vision is always very strong. Team Vision and A4O have had some great games the last few years. Should be a great tournament. With it being in Memphis, I'd have to say the Memphis teams will be favored to win it. QSouth89
In the 13 and under eastern division, the Tennessee Vision swept through the substate 4-0. 3 of their wins were blowouts over the TN Fury, The Chattanooga Elite, and the Middle Tennessee Magic. They did beat the team formerly known as the Legends by 2 in an exciting game. However, after qualifying for AAU state, the Vision will be playing in Charlotte NC in the Michael Jordan Brand Classic instead. The Vision are 19-3, with both loses coming to nationally ranked Atlanta GA teams and a 9th grade team. They will play in the YBOA state tournament, where they've been state runner-up twice, losing in 2010 and 2011 to team 147 or A4O in the championship game. swamptiger
The Tennessee Racers went undefeated in the 15U/9th grade AAU Sub state in Knoxville recently to win the championship and advance to the D1 state tournament. It was the Racers 4th tournament championship this season. Edited May 10, 2012 by swamptiger
doctorno
DR.- Do you know why team 147 changed there name? Not sure, to be honest, though the team is still very closely associated with the 147 Million Orphans adoption support organization.
bcwsr
On the 14U side Team Penny( currently ranked top 10 by five star) and Memphis War Eagles( finished 5th at last year Nationals) leads the West side. Team Penny has great size with 4 players 6'7 or better and probably the best player in the state in this age group. The Memphis War Eagles have great guard/wing play as both teams played an epic game in the sub-state with Team Penny winning in OT by 1.Both teams are probably top 20 teams nationally. Team Thad also out of Memphis is another good team from Memphis. On the 13U side just like the 14's Memphis War Eagles( Hayden)ranked #3 Nationally and Team Penny lead the West side. The War Eagles who finished #3 in Nationals after a disappointing showing in state last year is lead by great guard play and a couple of skilled strong bigs. They have already won a couple of tournaments this year including The Real Deal in the Rock and sub- state this past weekend over Team Penny. Team Penny is new to the scene but are a very talented team with size. I expect both teams to place in Nationals this year. War Eagles( Bray) is another good team from Memphis that is well coached and is a tough out. That pretty much is the gist of the West side in 13 and 14's.
