I can not believe how bad we looked tonight at Lenoir City. Catholic won't make the playoffs if we don't turn this around.

Just don't understand, so many teams out there that would love to have strong post players, Heritage has 2 and sounds like they're not being used.

Farragut 61-46 over Heritage. Game was in doubt only briefly. Bearden is only team in 4AAA that could challenge Farragut, but I think they would lose by 10-15 points. Maybe Catholic(have not seen them yet). Farragut is a good team,but Bradley and Science Hill are better.

For those who thought that Heritage had a prayer against the Lady Ads, I have but one thing to say--

 

I called that shot.

 

The Lady Ads just have too much hustle, heart, and veteran leadership for the other teams in this District. And our new coach is clearly the best at this end of the state!

Don't think the same priority is placed on girls basketball that there is on football. Tough to compete with several schools in the district having almost 1,000 more kids. Not making excuses for the Lady Irish, they play hard but struggle offensively. Very weak feeder programs certainly don't help the situation. Lack of consistency shows in beating Powell, taking Maryville to OT and keeping the Farragut game close by holding them to 6 FGs. Edited January 3, 2013 by IrishBBall

Just read the paper, Farragut won, but were unable to stop Heritage's sophomore post. Knight was top scorer with 20 points and I don't know how many rebounds. Farragut definitely has the best team in district, but other teams have potential.

Your stronger players are all from public schools Catholic has Mccollough, Scott, Kenny sisters, and Hopson twins all 6 from public school system which happen to all play competitive AAU ball. This is why I think Farragut dominates along with Bearden better feeder programs. The parents in Farragut put alot into the sports programs at an early age. There is also alot to be said in playing AAU ball on the exposure level not on the local tournament level that prepares girls for high school ball. Coaches know who can play and know girls by names. This is why Catholic should be able to compete in the district you have the talent on the team so I do not agree with the fact your in a district with schools over 1000 more kids is a problem. We will agree to disagree on that comment. Inconsistency could be coming from your rotation. When you play your best 5 players no matter upperclassman or underclassman is when you get the W. Just finding those 5 is up to your coach.

We do agree on several points. I've coached enough high level national AAU to appreciate the importance of playing. Playing AAU certainly has its place but most of these girls would benefit just as much by increasing their fundamental skills and SAQ training. AAU at the exposure level isn't the solution to our problem. Keep in mind two of the players you mentioned didn't really play last year due to injury and missed time earlier this year. I'm not sure how many players at Bearden and Farragut play multiple sports making a serious AAU commitment tough. We have several volleyball and softball players. That's where the shear numbers of the school come into play. If you consider 500 of the 1000 are girls and just 2% were basketball players, you've just added 10 players to the mix which would/could seriously change the complexion of the team. Keep in mind there are no juniors on the team either. Nobody has shown any semblance of consistency whether upperclassman or not. I would be hard pressed to name you the best 5, it varies widely from game to game. I think the changes and rotations are still a work in progress since no one has stepped up. We have tried several different combinations and substitution patterns in trying to develop consistency (without the desired results however). I think we have a pretty good young nucleus and may be better in the long run next year. I don't think there is much/any Catholic feeder help on the way.

 

I appreciate the fact that you see talent on this team. Maybe you have a better eye for talent than I do. Which of our 5 starters do you think would start or be in the short rotation for your Lady Admirals?

 

You obviously throw all this at the feet of Coach Ball but probably don't realize that the two coaches prior to him struggled also to have success while competing at the AA level. It is not always the coaching....just saying
