CAK vs. Darlington (Rome,GA)

I can't find much information about Darlington, but thought somebody else may have some insight. What type of team will they bring to Knoxville? Last year we traveled to Lexington, KY to play LCA and knew very little about them other than they had been pretty good just a year or two before. Of course it was a lopsided victory for CAK and so LCA neglected their obligation to return to Knoxville this year and bought their way out of the contract. Very pleased and much respect for Darlington for picking up this game and agreeing to travel to Knoxville this year. I know the schools are similar in size and they wear purple, but thats about all I know about them.

Any thoughts about Darlington would be appreciated....

With the exception of Alcoa (because it's a district game) I don't see CAK going out and scheduling an out of state game against a team that is very competitive. There are teams in the mid-state area (CPA, Ensworth, MBA, Brentwood Academy, Battle Ground, Franklin Road etc) and Knoxville area (Webb, Powell, Maryville, Oak Ridge) or upper east Tennessee (Science Hill, D-B, Greeneville, etc) that would be more then willing to schedule them. So, in the immortal words of Dick Vitale.....cupcake city baby. CAK wins 70-0.

With all due respect, there are not NEARLY as many East TN teams who would play CAK as you think. Fulton was on the schedule last year (or the year before) and backed out. Coach Bradley had to call something in the range of 70-80 teams to find a replacement opponent. We already have several higher division opponents on the schedule, such as Anderson County (5A), Gibbs (4A), Lavergne (6A)(had to agree to a two-year away/away deal with them to get them on the schedule, so we already have one three-hour from home game). I can understand why some higher division schools would be reluctant to play CAK--we don't bring a huge crowd, if you're a 5 or 6A team and beat a 3A team, everybody says "you're supposed to beat them," and if you lose to a 3A school, it hurts your overall record for purposes of playoff seeding. But if you're sure the teams you listed would agree to play us, Coach Bradley can enlist your help next time he needs to fill up his schedule and you can talk one of those teams into adding CAK.

The next "go around" for scheduling Teams will be even more difficult, just my opinion. Based on the record setting performances last year and what we saw last week, I don't see too many coaches even considering adding CAK to their schedule.

icon_lol.gif you're quite the pot stirrer. You forgot to include the TN Titans, MTSU & UT. Maybe North Carolina should join the SEC too. All of the teams you mentioned are certainly quality programs of whom CAK football supporters have great respect. But to say they are more than willing to schedule CAK simply reflects your lack of experience in scheduling football games under the most recent TSSAA Playoff Guidelines. CAK is capable of winning some of those match ups and depending on their own schedules many schools much larger than CAK are not willing to take the gamble. Not saying they would win, but I am most certainly saying they are capable of winning without it being that much of a stretch. Of course the D2's are willing because qualifying & seeding for the play offs in D2 is not as concerning. Your assertion that CAK looks for "cupcakes" to schedule is humorous. But we certainly are accustom to a variety of accusations around here. I'm sure Darlington will take exception to being referred to as a cupcake. However; I hope your score holds up. thumb[1].gif

Rome News Tribune is local paper. Rome has been known for excellent football over the years. Will Muschamp is a graduate of Darlington. They have been a Single A state qualifier consistently. I do not think they will be able to hang with CAK this year.

Thanks for that bit of info. If their players are as crazy on the field as W.Muschamp is on the sidelines then we better get our kids a rabies vaccination roflolk.gif

Is Darlington a single A school?

    • Im asking everyone to keep roy whited and his family in your prayers. Coach whited won back to back state championships at white county in 98-99. He is very well liked and respected in this area. For those of you that dont know he went missing 3 days ago. No one knows where he is. His truck was found in a rural part of the county. Thanks again. We are all very concerned.
    • West would be a good team to get behind if they can pull it off again like last year. That championship game last year was awesome.
    • I say that because he stepped out of a MUCH better situation on his own than he would see at least his first 3 years at DCA and it would take at least that much to bring him back to coaching. There are other fish in the sea, but again money talks. Need to fix the girls hoops too. Now I'll try again. Who has Pierce locked in for his staff? Hearing a McGavock man but not the Iceman.
    • I’ve heard mostly good things from the gridiron. Lots of optimism. It sounds like the portal has mostly helped, though there are a few expected defections. Comeback year!
    • Rudesell 1 year at Crockett. Coach Tate 2 weeks a Bradford. South Gibson supposedly going with jcs middle school coach. Which isn’t who I thought would get it, I know the top 2 was between him and Obion girls head coach.
