I agree with howdoitknow2. I haven't seen CPA play this season. But the news reports and stats would indicate that their offense is very capable of scoring. On the other hand, Maplewood's offense has not been this weak in over ten years. Even when the Panthers were in a down year their offense was better than it is now. The passing game is still maturing and may be better next year. Even with that, it is as good if not better than the running game. Maplewood doesn't seem to have a runner who can either grin it out of routinely break for long yardage this season. Actually, I think the problem is more with the offense line than the running backs. If the not for the fact that the rest of 10AA is also down there would be no way they would get a sniff of the post-season this year.

I think they lose to CPA, win at Stratford, and lose to Boyd-Buchanan. A win at Stratford will likely get them second in the district and a spot in the playoffs.

I say Maplewood has just as good a shot to win as anyone else .. my Panthers are coming right along ...for the first half of this PC game MHS was the truth ..i mean they were hard... They just need to finish the whole game play 4 qtrs ..they almost let this last one get away after doing such a great job the first half came out flat and and almost lost it ..as far as CPA ..they will try and do what they did last year grind out the clock and keep the ball out of Maplewood hands at all cost ..which almost worked... but didnt ...Panthers need be aware of trick plays on 4th down and fake punts ..just be alert CPA hates to punt in these type of games ..the Maplewood defense is playing great should cause a few turnovers ..the passing game is above avg QB has a nice arm and has great feel for what he can do ..there are to many weapons for the Panthers to pass the ball to ..the WR's with thier size and speed are playing well maybe a few dropped balls that should have been caught for scores and penalties that brought some back .. and the wet conditions also played a role ..this Panther offense may not be as strong as years past ...but they are not as weak as some would make them appear they can score ..CPA has there hands full ..after all you cant contain the panthers speed all the time ...look for MHS to have a better rushing performace this game than last ..PC was a good match up for Maplewood speed wise ..which made it tougher for the runners to hit the holes hit the corners..i dont see that being the case this time around ..will they respect the Panthers running game??? ..i sure hope so ..CPA running game has been good ..but will also have its hands full with this Maplewood defense ....i think they will resort to using screen plays and other quick passes which the Panthers will have to be aware of ...

and one last note ...Penalties Penalties .......Penalties Penalties ........Penalties Penalties ......Penalties Penalties ...if there is anything that will cause the Panthers to fail this is it ...they just need to focus ...so many penalties ..have kept many points off the board. People counted them out last season for this game ..make them wish they didnt this time either. District 10 - AA title on the line ..keep it where its been ....Panthers Den!!

Maplewood WINS OUT!! ...if im wrong so what ... if im right i told you so!! ...sound fair right??

Boski,

I always love your posts! I hear that some of the CPA dads are treating the Panthers to a steak dinner after the game in the

CPA cafeteria.

Are you going to the game? I'd love to meet you.

Maplewood is the class of 10-AA and as I have said elsewhere, they are the favorite until CPA can prove otherwise. They are big, quick and well coached. Should be a battle! Whatever the outcome, anyone who has written Maplewood off in 4A is making a huge mistake.

I think you are right. It will come down to turnovers.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
