K2ruth
What a thrilling night of high school volleyball! Farragut had a great night first with the upset win over Catholic then with a HUGE upset over Bearden. I expect a rematch in the Regional Tournament on Tuesday. Bearden's setter is amazing. She is one of, if not the best, high school setters to ever come out of Knoxville. She makes an average group of hitters look fantastic. Bearden has played great all year. When they get blocked or when the hitters go cold they struggle. The setter is making an average team great. What can you say about Farragut. They had all but been written off and came from no where to win, really with only one player. What a story. After watching them last night I can't imagine that they won't meet again in the region finals, and it should be a war. Either could be upset. Bearden has a weak serve receive with the young Libero, and their outsides are erratic, but the setter can do anything. Farragut lives with their big hitter and struggles to score when she is back row. Still, they are hot right now and I expect them to win their semi finals. Farragut will blow Hardin Valley away. Bearden faces a strong Anderson County team, but one that struggled against Karns. If the hitting errors don't kill them expect Bearden to win. PHargis
Bearden, with a Middle School coach this year, is the real story and the way he devoloped that setter. They might not make it to state or they may but the school, right now, could be the cinderella story in AAA buts maybe its too early to tell. K2ruth
PH the setter is amazing. If this is reflective of his coaching Knoxville has a new volleyball power.
PHargis
I hope the school will support the coach and team and keep the excitement going.
orcat
No upset, I have said all along that Farragut was the best team in Knoxville. The best team should have won. I think it will be a rematch in the finals. Farragut is stronger than Hardin Valley. The move to let the Libero hit was smart, but she is not enough to stop Farragut. Bearden's. setter is a special athlete. She is redefining Bearden volleyball and I think she is just a soph! If she had the hitters to go with her they would be a force. Give this new coach two more years with her, and the ability to train some hitters to go with her as a setter and watch out. I think Bearden will meet Farragut again in the finals, but I don't expect it to go five. Neither should be pushed in the semis, but HV will play Farragut hard because of Winstead, but I don't think she is enough. If Karns takes AC to five then Bearden will handle them pretty quick. PHargis
Cat, just like last year when I kept hearing of a school going to beat everyone, respectfully, with what you have described in this post, very few will think a team with a setter only will move very far in State. These coaches have seen and played best of position in and out of State and made adjustments with some pretty good players and its going to take 5 or 6 players to cut it in State plus at least 3 or 4 in rotation. Same as it was last year and as it is already shaping up only two or three different schools depending on the schedules. Everyone over there thinks you can do this with 2 or 3 players. Club blindness with shaded glasses.High School Coaches, don't come to the Boro each year thinking thats the answer to winning. Don't listen to those who tell you fairy tales. Get to work and develop a lot of players whether you think you need them or not. Injuries hide in the weeds. Thats the only way. Its not easy and the players deserve it. And even with all of that..........its not enough. It is crazy to think you can come with 7 players and not run out of time and players, And now do I think what I hear is how you operate, not in a quick minute. South does not do that and the rest, you are trying to play AAA like Anderson and Cak played AA. Its not the same. It takes more and players are not going to get all of it in club, you are going to have to teach it. Good luck. bigbluevolley
PH...Don't let these people full you. The setter for Bearden is the coaches daughter. She is good but not great. The best player on the team is their OH. She touches 10'1". The libero/hitter from HV can't hold a candle to Bearden's OH. She should have been MVP. Bearden losses her and their big middle this year. They won't compete next year. Farragut wins it easy next year. HV is done too. That's the real scoop. My Karns girls gave it all they had but came up short. We will be above average next year but not great. I tell it like it is. These other posters must moonlight on the volleyball board and are experts in some other sport.
