They named Charles McTorry the #34 greatest athlete in Tennesse (not just wrestler). He is the only wrestler on the list, and I have to agree he was the greatest.

That was done on the fact that he won Senior Natls......which I've already discounted from this discussion.

 

Besides, that was in 1998......kind of a lot's happened since then

He lost to Markese Nelson of Kirby 4 times including three times his junior year. You would think that the greatest ever would have figured out another opponent after four tries. McTorry was great, just not the greatest ever.

No stats, no records(win/losses), no matter who he beat or who beat him, No question that Matt Sweeton is 'one' of the Greatest in Tn. There are just a handfull of wrestlers in the state that can equal the same intensity that Matt Sweeton showed when he stepped on the mat. Not necessarily the greatest technician, but definitley the meanest.

I will agree that Sweeton is one of the greatest. His level of intensity was unmatched. And to think that he was a 3 time state champ and that he won it at 103 and then 4 years later at 160. That has to be some kind of record. Those 2 weight classes are 9 weight classes apart. That is incredible!

You said you are a coach. Where do you coach? Also, where did you wrestle in college and what was your record. I'm trying to get a feel for how good Blackmon was when he was a Junior.

i think that is lee varnell, he helps at cleveland, and i think he wrestled at utc, but don't use that to rate blackmon, by his junior year he was unreal.
