Tough night for GC. CPA getting better each week with lots of new players. Got to say watching online the GC stadium looks really nice with all the brick, great visitor stands and field. GC will be fine and end up with a good year, just got shocked early and never recovered.

Coach Martin at CPA is now 28-3 in his first 31 games.

Wow, I can honestly say I have never been a part of a running clock at the Brickyard with  the Bobcats on the wrong side.  Welcome to 12AA football CPA and Coach Walt and Staff.  CPA will walk thru this district if they play that way all year.  We had no answer.  Was more impressed with #7 JR Osborn than any other player, did it all but drive the bus, I guess.  Heads up CATS new week starts Sunday.  GO CATS!!!

Hats off to a VERY good CPA team. Cats had no answer tonight. 5x said it. #7 is a work horse. But, I'll give the credit to their O-line. It was by far the best we have faced since the 2011 Greeneville bunch. Across the board they were one of the most disciplined teams I have ever seen in high school. They will walk through our district for sure. Coach Martin was a class act.

The Bobcats will bounce back no doubt. Time to pay attention young men. Get to work... :ugeek:

Met some very nice folks down at the brickyard tonite. The press box was just amazing and everyone treated us like family. I was surprised by the score, as well. Didn't think we would score as much. Ya'll keep working with the guys, they've got a good base to start from. Hope you can overcome some of the current injuries, as well. Thanks for all the great hospitality, class act.

WOMG, we took your advise today and visited Sarge's Shack before the game.  Had the catfish, brown rice and homeade salad dressing just as you said and it was some of the best stuff we've had to eat in a long time.  Great staff too.  Very friendly and helpful.  Thanks again for the tip and helping make our trip.

Good luck to you guys the rest of the way.  It's a long way until November.  You'll be there for sure.

I wish I would have went to Sarge's - that was my choice but the wife out voted me.  Ended up at La Fuente.  Horrible food.  Should have stuck to my guns.  Good luck Bobcats....love the field.

I haven't witnessed a game like that in the Brickyard since we had a different Coach Smith. First off, why did we start the game  off with a trick play? That's the act of a desperate team that thinks they have no chance at winning and it put us in a terrible position. Also, the punt with 3 seconds left in the half???

I was very upset that Coach Smith didn't take any blame after the game when talking to the players. He said that they still had people doing stuff the old way and some doing it the new way, putting it at the players fault. That is a coaching problem. I think we made a grave mistake not paying Oconner and staff enough to convince them to stay. Hopefully we will bounce back from this embarrassing loss.

Not taking anything away from CPA, they were one of the most disciplined teams I have seen in a long time. They shouldn't have a problem running through the rest of the district. But we should've been in this game.

....ok lets see here. The "trick play" aforementioned was the perfect call. If we execute one block on the left corner we are off to the races. But, we did not make the block. The punt before half-time? Coach Martin is a class act. Both teams were leaving the field when the zebras "think" CPA wants a time out. There was no return on for CPA. The half was over for both staffs. Just had to pacify the refs.

CPA was in a 3-4. So tell us how you would attack it? You want to throw the ball down field with 6 db's? Or do you establish the run and throw underneath? You can't do either when your getting whipped on the line of scrimmage. You can't do either when you miss assignments. So move over to the defensive side. CPA has a legit SEC receiver along with others that can get the job done. You have to STOP the run before you can slow down the pass. Lining up wrong and not getting off blocks. We excelled in that area all night. So is that a game plan miscue of a case of getting your butt handed to you? Adjustments? How can you "adjust" when you are not executing what is being called now?

Oconner was gone period. It wasn't about the money. A school system can only pay what the salary scale dictates. Oconner abandoned our young men in January. Because of the loopholes in schools system policies, the tax payers wound up paying him until 3 weeks before school was out. Coach Walt Smith only had 3 days to put together a one week spring practice with no staff. No 7 on 7's this summer. We were limited to 2 fall scrimmages when everyone else got 4. He had to hire a staff, replace a all state qb, most of the o-line, rb's, 2 d-line, and 2 lb's all of which were all district. Oconner also helped to run one of our best returning linemen off to another school. Oconner set us up with four 5a non-district foes + Ensworth. The T$$AA awarded us CPA. And there's more but that's all water under the bridge and that bridge is burnt to a crisp!  :thumb:

Jimmy's & Joe's. X's & O's. We got the Jimmy's & Joe's. They need to work on following the X's & O's. Come play-off time the Bobcats will be ready. They got man-handled by a great team and a staff that's been together. The progress that's been made since the 1st week of fall practice is outstanding. I look for the young men to bounce back this week. Bring it. The Bobcats will be ready...... :ugeek:

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
