Early predictions for 8-AA 2014

Recommended Posts

Ely had complete full rides from TTU Austin Peay Murray State, Jacksonville State Eastern Kentucky ETSU Cambell. He was wanted by most D1-AA schools that don't offer athletic scholarships. He also had 3-4 preferred walk on offers at D1-A schools. Vandy WKU Memphis. He had a full ride to William and Mary which out of state is a 60,000 dollar scholarship. They have produced numerous defensive tackles in the nfl in the past few years. Shows what a Very good job he and the rest of the bees did this year.

If he is getting a full ride to W&M...tuition and fees are a little over $19,000 for this year. That does not include housing & other fees. Full ride would be well over $100K for 4 years. There is no such thing as a 4 year scholarship. Edited by Antwan

you would be correct, schoolarships are year to year. But most programs honor them for four years as long as you stay out of trouble.

Yeah most do, Coach Cal up in KY doesn't though. He will tell one 5 star that didn't do enough his freshman year so you either need to transfer or declare for the draft because we need space to bring in 6 more 5 star players.

Hence...renewable yearly. I think UT cut 3 or 4 this year to/make room for current signing class.

Technically they are transferring, wasn't actually cut. They just seen the writing on the wall. Butch just weeding out the players that don't really want to be there and give their all for TN.

Let's just say they were strongly encouraged to vacate those scholarships. This is nothing new. It happens at every school. Most people don't know about it unless you have been on the inside and seen it.

Yeah I know how it works. I don't blame Butch though, last years roster had several players that don't belong on this level.

Kids should have to work & contribute to keep their scholarships. If you do what you are supposed to...you are not likely to get cut. We are talking big money even in the less expensive schools.

From talking directly to Ely they said they will honor the scholarship for 5 years no matter what! Even career ending injury. For an out of state student the price for everything is over 55,000 dollars for the first year.every year after is over 30,000 so for 5 years is over 175,000 dollars. Pretty good for him

Most all will honor if you have a career ending injury. Don't believe it when they tell you it is an automatic. All scholarships are reviewed at the end of a school year. You sign a scholarship every year. With a $19,000 plus housing price tag...that would not add up to that much...but it does add up to a lot. Like I said before...great school.

I agree 100 percent. Old Butch just picked up another big commit. 4 star RB Derrell Scott out of NC. He and Hurd could prove to be a monster 1-2 punch in the near future. Scott makes 34 commits in this class I believe.

I fear one thing about UT. The fans. UT loses more starters than any other sec team. Entire ol and dl. These freshman will be good but won't do a lot in this confrence year one. Likely that UT will be 5-7 or 6-6 with a very young teams. Will the fans give Butch 3 or 4 years before they push for a title? I don't know that they will from what I have seen in the past.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
