I just looked at the schedule. Didn't SS beat Liberty by 1? That's not a struggle? Gave up 83 points to Bolivar? Beat JCM by 17? We beat them by almost 40 with a running clock the whole second half. Starters on the bench. I'm not hating on SS, just stating a few facts.

my point tomcat...was that they both struggled with liberty...SS has depth issues...if u will...theyre bench is better than most...but after the 6th man there is a drop off in production on both ends of the floor...since ive been watching them fuller has been playing different rotations to build depth once they get a 20 point lead or so

that being said...ill take SS starting 5 vs anyone...they dont get into foul trouble ever so them being winded is the only issue that could arise

also...clock only runs in the 4th quarter here...and liberty barely beat jcm...was losing by 8 or 10 after the 3rd quarter...which is the same margin haywood was up about the same time...see what i did there...i put jcm on the same level has haywood...u can make matchups say anything u want...SS vs Haywood is an elite matchup...say all u want that SS isnt the favorite...they played in the championship game last year...since u kinda brought up last year...thats what theyve proven...

and haywoods schedule is impressive no doubt...i have no issues with who they have or have not played...just showin some love for my local

u also appear to be a tarheel fan...so we can deduct some points from ur opinion

go blue devils!!!

Oh goodness a blue devil fan...we won't even go there <_<

Maybe you're expecting Barford to take South Side all the way by himself like you're hoping Parker will for Duke, but they will only make it so far until they meet a complete team with five good players that will take advantage of those average players just standing out there taking up space on the other team...cough cough Haywood

Im not taking sides because I only seen South Side play.Dont know what the strenghts and weaknesses of Haywood.Strength of South Side is they like to play fast and get a lot of easy transition points. They get the ball out fast after miss shots and made buckets and try to beat you down the court for a layup. They play 7-8.Its hard to press them because of their backcourt of Barford and McNeil. Forrest City Ark tried it and Barford had 36,Mcneil had 30,and Hicks had 25pts and 15 reb. They are really dangerous in a fast pace game.Weaknesses of South Side is to get them in a half court game and make them shoot jumpers.Mcneil is the only threat outside.Barford like to get to the rim or shoot his floater in the lane.Hicks you have to keep from the rim.You have to make him shoot shots away from the rim because when he get the ball in the post he going to try and beat you to the rim.Union City played 1-3-1 and really slowed them down and only got out after Mcneil on jump shots.South Side have 2 post guys 6'7 and a couple of their players have come along since the first game.I still think South Side and Haywood will be in the State.

WOW!!!!!  Some good ole West Tennessee AA basketball talk.  I've been missing that.  Anyway, I'm a Bolivar guy so I don't have to pick a side in the Haywood-Southside debate.  But, I think everyone is making the same point, which I agree with.....................Southside has the better starting 5 and Haywood has the best depth.  It will all shake out over the next 6 weeks.  Should be fun...

Average player?! Beard is better than Hicks or McNeil. He is a very close second behind Barford. He had no choice, but to move to JCM. Some of South Side's players had been talking trash like every teenager does at some point or another and he called them all out for a one on one during the game and shook them up real nice :popcorneater:  I thought it was funny even though South Side still obviously pulled out the win easily.

    • Did this happen? Does anyone know? Ripley has their HC job posted on the bulletin board over the weekend.
    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
    • No movement on Chester? South Gibson? Gibson County?
    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
