The Powell staff, or at least a significant portion of it, should be released fairly soon.

We'll have something on the website when Coach Allen is ready to release it.

Coach Kilgore added a new staff member today.  Not sure that he is ready to release his full staff yet, but I do know that he has put a very good staff together there.

This is the member he added:

Roberts is a nice hire for Kilgore.  Anytime a coach can bring somebody in who already has head coaching experience it is a plus.

So HTV who are all the great coaches that Kikgore has hired, we here at Karns haven't seen any coaches that would have the experience to be called a nice hire and we keep the one constant if our ways for 30 years on staff so just wondering about the great staff you posted about. Not saying young coaches can't be good but having a track record to compare to would be great.

So, Kilgore has been the head coach at Karns for less than two months now.  He's still putting his staff together, and you are already dogging him?

Explains a lot.

Roberts is a nice hire.  He did a good job at MJC.  I saw his team play myself.  They played with a good scheme and played hard, although they were undermanned.

Not going to comment on any other individuals at this point since I don't know that Tobi has officially released names yet.

I'm not dogging him, my question was simple you said he has put together a good staff, I'm just asking you with your unlimited knowledge who are the great hires? I would say 3 and 7 as a head coach wouldn't classify your team as successful, I would also say if your going to give a guy credit for being undermanned you have to give Travis Tipton some props with all the key injuries they had this year, don't get upset that I would question about the staff, if you are going to raise the bar that its a good staff then explain, we are just tired of being told how great coaches are and we would like to see it, allot of praise for NON PROVEN COACHES all over this board.

Unlimited knowledge?  No, I don't have unlimited knowledge, and nor do you.

Coach, I don't know you personally and certainly have nothing negative to say about you as a coach and instructor.  We have some mutual friends and they speak very highly of you.

That said, for a member of the former staff to come to this forum and dog the new coach and his staff reeks of nothing but sour grapes to me, not to mention appearing pretty much unprofessional.

Travis Tipton is irrelevant to the conversation.  He did a good job under difficult conditions, and everything I hear about him is positive, as well.  Nothing but good things to say about him.  For whatever reason, Karns administration chose to go in another direction.  Not his fault, not Coach Kilgore's fault, not anybody's fault.

I'm not a coach I have coached one year in the youth program so who ever you think I am I don't know but I haven't been on any staffs and I don't have a clue who you are.

Interesting.  So, your experience includes one year as a youth coach, yet you are qualified pass judgement on current, past, and future coaches at Karns and decide who is and isn't a quality coach?

OK.  If you say so.

I think our mutual friends will get a chuckle out of that one.

Staff is almost complete, if not complete by now.

As soon as Coach Allen gives us the okay we'll post it on www.powellpanthersfootball.com . There is a protocol that has to be followed to get everybody approved by Knox County Schools HR before we can do that.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
