York, Pickett Co. boys teams banned from postseason after fight

"There were three different videos that were shown to the board and we had angles that showed every side of the gymnasium," Childress said. "Having something from every angle of the court that we were able to see played a big part in what the board did." From TSSAA

If there was any hitting of the York player by Pickett fans "with a bottle" or "slapping" it would have been seen by TSSAA on any of the three videos. Clearly it never happened. Last night the Pickett students were very positive. Every cheer was for Pickett and no cheers against the other team, like in the Clarkrange/Jackson Co. game. Pickett Co. had a huge turnout of fans and the boys took care of business.

And, "political influence"...being the smallest county in the state sure gives Pickett Co. a lot of political weight!

I believe that York Institute, being a state school, would carry much more weight.

You know exactly what was political influence I was referencing. You know who all went down with Pickett county as well as I do. Trust me the

blame lies with the adults that should have been supervising that student

section. They get out of hand and you know it. Out of the whole thing York has been screwed. If Pickett just got a slap on the hand then some of the

punishment that York received should be lifted as well.

I don't know what political influence went so please share. I may need to rethink my voting.

It sounds like Monterey got hosed as well. Preparing for one team and then finding out on game day you have to play someone else. Especially tough if Pickett and Jackson have differing styles.

In Wednesday's Herald Citizen, it was clearly stated by Monterey coach Adam West that up until then they had done nothing but prepare for Pickett County.. I wouldn't go as far as saying that they were hosed. Also, Monterey was given the opportunity to postpone game until Saturday night which would have given them an extra day to prepare for the team they would be playing, but they chose not to and wanted to play Friday. If you think other teams were put on hold about finding out who they would be playing just think about to 2 teams who had no clue whether or not they were even going to get to step on the floor Friday night. Oh, and as far as political influence, we had several people work hard in the school system to show that our boys should get to play. They went very prepared so it is being told. Pickett Countys coach worked his tail off to get things together along with several others. From whats been said if York had gone prepared they would have probably been playing as well. I hate it for York honestly, certainly for those who were not involved, but for some reason TSSAA made the choice they saw fitting.

From what I was told by someone who was there, 2 current state representatives and 1 former representative was there. I feel really bad for York, and I don't blame the boy for defending himself. There are some people who keep talking about how Pickett co didn't do anything. I agree that from what I have heard/read the players were not involved but they are responsible for the student section and that is where it all started.

Either you suspend them both or let them both off the hook. I know most believe that it is unfair to suspend a team when the kids aren't involved, but the fans are representatives of the school and the team and these same fans will be at future games. So personally I believe the suspensions should have held. It shows the school, players, and fans that no matter the circumstances show class and respect, and if you do not you will face the consequences.

Before you start using the political card, you better make sure those same people didn't represent both schools.

The fact is TSSAA/Board saw the presentation(s) and Pickett Co was able to show they weren't at fault. As for York, only the players involved should have got suspended.

You are right the political influence that everyone is so called talking about where there supporting both schools so you probably shouldn't go there. Being prepared was the key to the meeting if York had gone prepared they would have been playing Friday night too more then likely bottom line. And as far as the coaching goes you hear everything I'm not sure what's going to happen I can tell you one thing he has worked hard to get this appeal turned around. Regardless of who they put in there someone is always going to find fault that's the way I look at it.

    • It is what it is. Sorry DFL.
    • One of the biggest loosing teams in Mid-State are the Macon County Tigerettes. I have noticed that the roster is smaller than in the years past. All the senior's have quit. We have a great group of Jr High players coming up. I sure hope they don't loose them, like they have lost so many others this year. With this young group of girls coming up, a weaker district, they should have no problem going to State.
    • It was updated this season, because I did it.  Linder is the school's all-time leading rusher at 5,156 yards with 2,436 of those coming in 2014.
    • Oh, I’m sure you did. Maybe you heard just a rumor, but considering we have a football practice field and a soccer field that’s frequently used for lacrosse games and practices, I highly doubt it. Let me change that. I know for a fact that didn’t happen.   Glad you finally stopped attacking a bunch of high school students, but still obsessed with the coaching staff for some unknown reason, even though you could name more than three (at most) coaches without looking it up. But now come up with something else.
    • You really mean the Price twin boys and Lyin Larry.
