I totally agree with Alcoa being a Powerhouse on the mat now and the years to come! This program has been in the making since 2006/2007 when the youth began. Not taking anything from Evan, cause he is a beast on the mat but there are plenty other Alcoa wrestlers just as good such as Renshaw, Shereef, Murphy, Verhulst, Fiegler, Fisher and many more in the program. Not one weight class supports or carrys the team, it takes all the weight classes to be the backbone and to make the team what it is..  I'm already looking forward to next season.  

 

Also, I give props to all the Blount County Wrestling Programs... Heritage, Maryville, William Blount.. Blount County is a Force to be reckon with next year!

HUNTSVILLE(WAAY/AHSAA) - If you're a wrestler in the state of Alabama then today was your day. It was the final day of the AHSAA Wrestling State Championship.

Three days wth of matches crammed into 2 days... And North Alabama has themselves a few state titles. However, the story of the day was Scottboro's Brandon Womack. The Cornell wrestling commit became just the second wrestler in state history to win six state titles in a career capping one of the most prolific wrestling careers in the country.

"Honestly I've never been more nervous.  It's my last match.  A bunch of people came to watch," says the Scottsboro Senior.

"I just wanted to do what I do best and go out there and wrestle.  For me, I think it's the most important.  It sums up my whole high school career and now I'm just looking to the next thing."

Weaver’s Michael Sutton was the first winning six in a row from 1999-2004. Womack finished the season 77-0 and his prep career 422-8 – making him the AHSAA’s all-time wins leader. His 77 wins without a defeat is also the best unbeaten single season in state history.

Womack was named the MVP of the Class 5A championships as well. It was certainly a big day for him.

How long do you really think Evans will be wrestling at Alcoa? Heck he may already be on a plane back to California. If he doesn't go back there, he will be scooped up by one of the big schools or private schools. Alcoa did well this year and should be proud of that. All the talk about the split is a waste of time. It is what it is. Why do we question whether the wrestlers would have won had their been no split? Don't take that away from those boys that did win. They worked hard to earn a spot in the state tournament, except 1 that comes to mind that was added to the roster the day before the duels. Not mentioning any names here. That was addressed in a previous thread. Anyway, Congratulations A/AA medalists!! Keep up the good work.

I'm sorry but there is no other wrestler on Alcoa close to being as good as Evans

Matguy you can't blame the kid. He came back and wanted to wrestle. Why do you think he will go to a big or private school?

Kicken some tail... That's what ol Greenback has done in your neck of the woods. Probably smaller than Alcoa

Not blaming the kid at all. He is a great wrestler. I am just saying that I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't go where he will face tougher competition. I agree that Baylor, Cleveland, etc have some GREAT programs that have been that way for awhile. They are always looking to add to their roster.
