Week 0: South Gibson Co. at Camden Central

Recommended Posts

great win for Camden....as a neutral observer though...SGC out played the men from Benton Co....Camden had a 5 yd int return for TD and a 4 yd TD drive after a fumble..and they won by 3....I'm well aware that every play counts and it is what it is...but a prediction of a Camden blowout win was kinda off base...

Hornets take 14 - 0 lead early. Camden gains momentum in 3rd. 28 - 28 tie late in 4th and Camden kicks 28 yard field goal then holds on downs, and runs the clock out by getting one first down. Final 31 - 28. Lions looked to be in a little better shape physically throughout the second half, as temp fell rapidly after dark.  South Gibson is still a quality team that should make some noise in the playoffs. Hats off to both teams and both crowds for great behavior.

I never thought Camden would blow them out. Hornets out played Benton boys for one quarter, the first. Camden didn't panic like some teams would. Great job for the Camden boys and coaches.

SGC played a tough game and played their hearts out. Unfortunetly we came up short. Gotta learn from our mistakes take the hits and move on to Chester Co.

Really needed this win for help in getting a 4th consecutive playoff berth. Going to be tough and the schedule doesn't get any easier from here out.

Camden I like your field and the support for your town ad school, best of luck in the rest of your season

What a great game!!!  Camden came out with some BIG boys.  You know, the kind of boys who have been raised on beans, cornbread and pork chops.  NOT tofu, granola and bean sprouts.  Good, physicaly conditioned team.  Camden played well and did a great job of ball control in the second half.  SGC also did a fantastic job for the first three quarters.  Things kinda went wrong in the fourth quarter -- they just couldn't keep things together.  Hats off the SGC defence.  That is what stopped this game from being a blowout.  The goal this past spring and summer has been to improve the physical condition of the whole team with a focus on defence.  You could tell it last night.  I am very proud of the SGC Hornets.

Congratulations to a well played game by Camden Central and a well deserved win!  Hope you guys have a great season.

Oh yeah.  Y'all have a really good looking stadium.  The field was in great shape and help contribute to a good ball game.

I hope we keep the Camden game next year when the new schedules are made with the new classes and Camden going to 2A.

This already has a making of a great opening season rivalry, and should be better in the future. Two great things to take from this game are DeShawn Brown (Camden) and Tyler Dysart (South Gibson, #4) are both sophomores

    • It is what it is. Sorry DFL.
    • One of the biggest loosing teams in Mid-State are the Macon County Tigerettes. I have noticed that the roster is smaller than in the years past. All the senior's have quit. We have a great group of Jr High players coming up. I sure hope they don't loose them, like they have lost so many others this year. With this young group of girls coming up, a weaker district, they should have no problem going to State.
    • It was updated this season, because I did it.  Linder is the school's all-time leading rusher at 5,156 yards with 2,436 of those coming in 2014.
    • Oh, I’m sure you did. Maybe you heard just a rumor, but considering we have a football practice field and a soccer field that’s frequently used for lacrosse games and practices, I highly doubt it. Let me change that. I know for a fact that didn’t happen.   Glad you finally stopped attacking a bunch of high school students, but still obsessed with the coaching staff for some unknown reason, even though you could name more than three (at most) coaches without looking it up. But now come up with something else.
    • You really mean the Price twin boys and Lyin Larry.
