5A State Championship Contenders

We all know Hillsboro, Blackman , east, Henry county, Oak ridge, West, are all contenders. My pick is West.

 

But, nobody has even mentioned Sevier county. They lost in a shoot out to KDB in the final minute and to maryville. They will be 8-2 after they beat Jeff co and south Doyle. I would not want to play them and especially at their place. With the right match ups they could advance 2-3 rounds. So this is my East Tennessee dark horse I guess.

SC is 6A. They will survive 2-3 rounds max.

Just wondering, OR, West, SD is what alot is picking to play for the title. So I guess everyone is picking OR to win the district. I think AC is going to rebound this week and be fired up for SR night with the district title on the line at AC next Thursday.

Even if they do beat OR they aren't going anywhere with that one dimensional offense they have. Only Alcoa can get away with running the ball 95% of the time in high school and that's because they are in 3A. They couldn't do that in the higher classes. AC got thoroughly exposed by Catholic and don't think the OR staff hasn't picked up on that.

I've noticed one thing with Gillum coached teams and it seems to have become the norm with him. They are either a too pass happy offense or too run happy offense. He has never had any kind of balance to his offenses, and until he finds that they will continue to fall short of ever winning anything significant. Although even if they did have that I still couldn't ever see them winning a title because they just don't have the athletes that other schools like West, OR, SD, and others in this area have. Just my honest unbiased opinion.

      Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!

      I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
