Elizabethton defeated Science Hill 68-53

Could Elizabethton be looking at a second State Championship? They looked little sloppy tonight, missed 15 or more free throws. Still beat 6A Science Hill by 11. SH looks a little down this year. I bet they get a the opportunity to improve their cardiovascular health when Coach Dugger gets through running them this week. No sense in that.

Uncharacteristically, EHS was 13-27 from the line last night.

The reason the girls didn't play SH when they were "at their best" is because the previous boys coaches didn't want to play. The AD would not schedule SH because of this. If you remember, the series was renewed last year when the SH girls were very good (likely would have made the state finals had the incident with Tartar not occurred).

We have heard for years that the reason they did not play was only because of the boys coach but deep down we all know that this is not the only reason.  The girls had opportunities to play each other at neutral sites on a couple of occassions and the only reason it didn't happen was due to Elizabethton not wanting to play Science Hill.  These situations were girls only Hall of Fame games and Thanksgiving Classic at Happy Valley so the boys not wanting to play was not a factor.  As I stated earlier, it is a shame the fans did not get to see these two programs play every year.

Sorry 14 free throws missed not 15 and Elizabethton won by 15 not 11 and Elizabethton has 813 students to Science Hill 2207. Have never heard a larger school crying about a smaller school not wanting to play them. The two teams did play just last year. I went to the game and Elizabethton lost 60-37. What are you talking about? They are set to play again Feb 6.

    • We could sure use some math teachers country wide. Ever go into a store or restaurant and the bill comes to $9.97 and you give them a ten dollar bill and 2 pennies because you wanted a nickle back and then the meltdown starts and the next thing two more people have to come and help figure it out and the place comes to a complete halt. I see this everyday and it's a sad representation of all these schools allowing these kids out the door to get shortchanged the rest of their life.
    • I like the Pirates chances. I’ll be there as soon as work allows.
    • Stars, I heard we were searching far and wide for some math teachers. Any chance their kids bench press or 40 times are getting checked? LOL I’ve heard good things from 825.
    • I think it was expected. “Bad” luck I guess to get a couple difference maker QBs in the same class. I thought the decision was made a little early myself, but they were struggling offensively last year.  I assume the running quarterback alco had last year would be a senior this fall, and the transfer would start the following two years in addition to getting a ton of playing time this year. Maybe he waits two yrs, but I doubt it. The kid is good. So is the one who stayed.
    • I'm from Cloudland and we've never played a sectional game.  We need to win tomorrow night to avoid that bus ride.  Us and north greene can play with you guys so I'm expecting good games whoever the matchup is.
