TSSAA lets teams schedule these special games without requiring them to count against the total number of games a team can have in a season. The only catch is that the proceeds from the games go to the building of a TSSAA Hall of Fame. Hence the name, "Hall of Fame" game.

Only appropriate that basketball fund the new hall of fame.

Youngsters sometime forget or never knew that basketball paid the bills in the old days, and primarily financed the current TSSAA facility. Football was pretty much revenue-neutral until the playoff system began in 1969. The other sports have never been a money maker. Thats why some oldtimers in the know get irate when basketball is forced to sacrifice in some way to benefit other sports.

 

Would be interested if somebody posted some old and some new financial information on TSSAA sources of revenue. I'm sure football is making them pots full of money today.

There was an explaination given on a HS football call in show last Friday that stated that TSSAA mandates that the admission be set for the football playoffs at $7.00, with no passes given. They, TSSAA, then get 50% of the ticket sales before expenses and the remaining 50% is split between the two teams.

Franklin is hosting a few hall of fame games, girls and guys on Friday and Saturday (*Saturday starting at 12)

Greeneville High School Lady Greene Devils played the Oak Ridge Lady Wildcats Tuesday night in a HOF game at Oak Ridge. It seemed to be a great game played by both teams. Ths final score was OR 51 GHS 38. The game was very well played by both teams and I expect these two to be at the top of their games when they possibly could meet again.
