Coach Crews told me this story about Coggins once. They were seated at a table with one of the guys up for Mr. Football. He looks at Coggins and says, you up for Mr. Football?

You a kicker or something? I think that's how he told it anyway...

I'm guessing he was much smaller than the others, and they couldn't believe he was a RB. Lol

I always liked that story, it really tells the tale of Wayne County football. Not always the biggest players, but always a scrappy bunch.

He would fair catch punts and kick offs cause he said it would take away from his rushing stats!

Don't have to worry about that because I have no idea who you are talking about. In a side note. Have y'all been doing any alumni games with Alumni football USA?

Yes. Collinwood and Wayne County played last May. It was awesome. Cant wait to do it again. It was fun playing against mostly guys young enough to be my son. Made me feel young. Wayne County won 8-0. It was great hitting again. Next game I may sub some. I think I played all but two plays on defense.

The person sitted at the table with Brian was future UT Vol and NFL Def Tackle John Henderson!! John was the 4A Mr. Football winner for Lineman of the yr that season. He attended Pearl Cohn HS. Edited by WCHS_Wildcats_#2

I have a topic for you. Who is the best football player to ever come thru Wayne co and Houston county since I don't know that much about either ones history. Give me a lineman and a back/wr. Take Preston out of equation so not to get current player involved and start un-needed feud. Also biggest college someone from program went to to play football. Can be completely different person. I know sometimes the best player can't make the grades for big time college. We've had that happen before

Sorry im late but GREAT question!

WCHS had a man named Hubert McClain play in the late 50's and got a scholarship at UT and had offers frm Bear Bryant at Bama also. He signed on at Knoxville and in 1961 was the Vols leading WR in yds and receptions!! Now that's cool!!

Also so I keep posts short Ill name some of the others in the next post.

The Wildcats had Jerrod Baugus who played on the 1990 team that went onto to the 1st ever Semi Finals appearance in our history up to that point. He was IMO the greates all around player at WC in history. He ended up finishing 2nd n Mr. Football that yr to a guy from DCA. He had over 2500 rush yds and over 200 tkls.

QB Joseph Ruddle who played from '02-'05 was a 2 time all state player and while he had a scholarship to play ball @ Jacksonville State he did not attend.

SS Chase Graham who played from '06-'09 went on to play and start 4 seasons at Bethel.

QB Tyler Rice who played from '07-'10 went on a scholarship to UT Martin before transferring to Moorehead State in Eastern KY for his SR yr. He is now a WR coach at Murray State.

I know I am forgetting some

We have had 2 so far with Richland. First one went two overtimes and the second we blanked them. I think it would be great if we could get some of the old region 6 teams to start having at least one a year with different teams from the old region. We had a 53 year old on the team in the first game . I haven't been able to play in one yet because of my work schedule. Would be awesome to strap on up a few more times. Edited by leadfarmer

    • Wow I haven't been keeping up with softball had no idea.Been keeping up with baseball and we are slowly fading there.I will check it out!!Thx
    • It is what it is. Sorry DFL.
    • One of the biggest loosing teams in Mid-State are the Macon County Tigerettes. I have noticed that the roster is smaller than in the years past. All the senior's have quit. We have a great group of Jr High players coming up. I sure hope they don't loose them, like they have lost so many others this year. With this young group of girls coming up, a weaker district, they should have no problem going to State.
    • It was updated this season, because I did it.  Linder is the school's all-time leading rusher at 5,156 yards with 2,436 of those coming in 2014.
    • Oh, I’m sure you did. Maybe you heard just a rumor, but considering we have a football practice field and a soccer field that’s frequently used for lacrosse games and practices, I highly doubt it. Let me change that. I know for a fact that didn’t happen.   Glad you finally stopped attacking a bunch of high school students, but still obsessed with the coaching staff for some unknown reason, even though you could name more than three (at most) coaches without looking it up. But now come up with something else.
