In my opinion this is an outstanding hire. 1. It will bring the buzz and energy back at North Side, I would've thought they would have lost that if they hired a normal assistant. 2. Players would respect him, all he has to do is wear his BCS ring and let that do the talking. 3. I was predicting North Side to go 5-5 in 2016, that may go up to possibly 7-3. 4. Big kudos to Principal Bridgeman and the schoolboard for being patient and hired a quality guy. Clock was about to stop ticking and I thought they would've hired Gillard just because they made no effort to look at somebody else from the outside. Good hire! But a long ways to go to win a state championship!

Coach Nickey is a class guy.  He is very personable with the players and the parents. Plus he brings the background of high school experience with BGA/USJ, collegiate with Ohio State and pro with the Titans.  Also his play on special teams was noteworthy as he would absolutely get after it.  Coach Marley was right last year-- I think he could still suit up and play a game!  I remember one game last year, everyone, including myself, had on a heavy coat, hat, etc.-- it was freezing and the wind was howling.  Coach Nickey is there in his short sleeve blue shirt with a bald head just doing his thing.  Must be that Ohio State training.

 

Congrats to North Side and we all hope he does extremely well along with North Side.  Really hate to lose him, but glad he's still in town and hopefully winning with a fellow Jackson school.  Good luck guys!

There is no doubt the players will respect him. However, just because he played at a high level or the highest, doesn't mean he will be a great coach. Only one year of coaching experience, and there is so many things a Head Coach has to deal with. He could be very good, but time will tell.

I agree with what you said, however he also coached at BGA before moving to Jackson. Something tells me that he will hire Mickey Marley as an assistant so he can guide him through for the next few years. He will have a tough test for his first two games, so obviously don't be surprise if we go 0-2 for the first two weeks, it'll be expecting.
