  1. Liberty 34 Dyersburg 24 I don't see the rain being a factor. We are in a big drought and we are only suppose to get a quarter inch of rain for tomorrow, if that. Not much. Coaching won't be a deciding factor either. The only way it can be is if Stowe pulls out a few tricks that he has in store. Safe travels and Goodluck to both teams! Winner has my pick to Cookeville.
  2. Might want to take North Side off the list. Other than Greg Emerson, we don't have much coming back. We are losing a ton of quality football players with a young and a little inexperienced coach that is about to go through his first offseason. There will be questions in 2017 for the Indians.
  3. I was just wondering to see if you're okay, that's all. 🙃
  4. Ripley? Jackson Christian? Trinity Christian?
  5. I have to agree with you DHS. I don't think any team win a state title anytime soon, possibly in any sport. I don't think the school board simply cares about athletes for their schools. I pour absolutely no money into them, everything that a school wants has to be by funding. North Side was suppose to get a new football stadium due to safety reasons, that money went to iPad's to the middle schoolers at the academy thing at Northeast Middle. I am totally for putting turf fields on all 3 public schools and here's why: 1. Family. I am assuming coaches, parents, and a few players are painting the field on Wednesday and Thursday nights, but that's time away from family. Also, when there is a middle school game on Thursday night, North Side coaches would have to wait until the game is over just to paint the field. Which would be about 8:00/8:30-11-midnight. 2. In the long run, it probably saves money. I hope a D-Burg supporter helps me out on this. I know turf fields are expensive, but with it lasts 8-10 years I believe it saves you a little bit of money, not having to buy all that paint. Just curious on how much the turf field cost Dyersburg 3. Too many non-Friday night games. Since North Side is land-locked, we have to let our soccer players play on the football field. And with girls soccer, freshman games, middle school games, JV games, and boys soccer in the spring. It has to kill the football field. I do think the academic standard is too low. I truly believe that if you don't put to your standards sky high, you're just setting yourself up for mediocrity. But the ACT prep teachers don't want to teach and the students always want to take classes with their favorite teachers. That's what gets me! Students just don't realized that a 21 ACT score gets them into every university except UT-Knox. So I don't think they get it, also don't want to learn either. Also, if a coach lets a player that has a D, that coach should be suspended (I don't think that happens, but it won't surprise me). Everything is Academic, academic, and it's not working out.
  6. Thanks for the insight! Totally forgot about Collinwood but Middleton got robbed to the point where I feel bad for those guys and their fans. Congratulations on the win against Gordonsville! Heard things got a little spicy! Goodluck this week and congrats to Rice on breaking the record!
  7. Feel bad for the Middleton Tigers. A team that's not a very good program, traveling at least an hour 30 to play Huntingdon and Bruceton, 2 hours to play McEwen I believe, maybe longer. An hour and 15-30 minutes to play Perry County and at least an hour drive to play Wayne County. I know they get unlucky geographically reasons, but they probably need to be in Region 8-1A. To make things worse, Middleton does not have a very good fan base, and probably lacks community support and funding for their football team. They got robbed a little bit. Would've been better off co-oping with Bolivar in football.
  8. brownie points for starting this thread as early as possible!
  9. Seems pretty intense, just to clarify a few things, a player can be ejected from a game for throwing a punch (doesn't have to be connected or not, doesn't matter what happens before the punch was thrown either). Obviously, I didn't see what happened because I wasn't there nor I was able to watch the game via Internet. I hope both teams traveled well! Congrats WC on the win. Also for Gordonsville, the player that was ejected will miss the first game of next years game if he is not graduating in the spring. But I'm sure Gordonsville will send a tape to the TSSAA and try to appeal it, a lot of schools do that. 1A football is underrated!
  10. So should Tennessee Lady Vols and Vanderbilt girls basketball teams play women's basketball when they know UCONN will win a national championship? Should the Memphis Grizzlies play NBA when everybody knows that the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavilers will play in the NBA Finals in June? I'm sure they are players that are on Milan and Liberty's football team know they have a shot to head to Cookeville, but they probably won't beat Alcoa. I'm sure whoever Alcoa plays tomorrow, there's players on that team know they won't beat Alcoa tomorrow. Milan fans know they probably don't have a shot to beat Alcoa, but that doesn't take away the fact that there season is a complete bust if they don't win the gold ball, especially losing to Alcoa.
  11. I think he's talking about the Dysart kid that transferred from South Gibson to Chester County over the summer.
  12. In all honestly, that end zone is no where near safe for the players. Having a 4 feet hill at the end zones is completely dangerous. I'm surprised that Haywood doesn't have a specific play for a fade route in the end zone and make a 6'3 type receiver go up and jump and catch the ball, basically a jump ball to get the football. Also, surprised that the TSSAA hasn't informed Haywood that they can no longer have that hill at the endzones. I'm sure they have the money to give to the TSSAA to remove that hill. Same goes for Ripley and their end zones as well. Meanwhile on the football game. Haywood squeaks by. Tomcats 28 East 20. But I honestly will not be shocked that East takes care of them.
  13. Safe Travels!!! Hope all is well to the place where you are going.
  14. The "puppies" have a few state championship under their belt. Yes, your defense is rolling, but with Westview, South Gibson, McNairy Central, South Side, and Fayette-Ware, its hard to give up points with the defense that Liberty has.
  15. Funny. I told you many times in the past that I was wrong and will be wrong in the future, still not going to change who I am. I don't get on numerous amounts of threads, the only one I go on in the 2A is Trinity (which I stopped for a few weeks until you bring up the word expert, which is throwing a shot at me). I told you guys last week that if TCA was going to beat Lewis County, they have to play defense. Which, you guys didn't. But I get slammed by Intense for an ignorant band comment which he totally ignore my statement. Giving up 34 PPG in 10 games is awful. Basically giving the offense no chance to be successful. However, all I said was Roland was going to leave JCS anyway. Could it be done in a different way? Absolutely. But I said that because I didn't want everyone completely slamming JCS for 'firing' him. Was JCS going to be a better football team in the near future? I don't know. But coaching football is a privilege, if you don't do a good job, chances are you wont be at that school for a while. That's how the way it goes.
  16. Before all heck breaks loose, just want to let you know that Coach Roland was going to leave anyway. So even if JC didn't "fire" Roland, Roland was going to leave.
  17. I get and understand your argument, but I'm going to have to disagree with you. Playing and practicing football in October for a team that gives up 50 PPG is no fun. I don't care what team you play for. I saw where Unaka was outscored by 300+ points total this season, and they have 1 win to show for. Plus, losing by 30+ with a running clock, that's no good. The players aren't dumb, they knew coming into this week that they were going to be tossed around like dummies and lose by 50+. I have no ties to Unaka football, but I have a feeling that the players for Unaka are tired of losing, and I bet they got criticized an awful lot on Social Media this season. Get a new coach? People seem like that's the ultimate solution to everything, but it's not. Coach Rankin and those guys are lucky and the schools have to be blessed to have those type of coaches. I don't know who the coach is at Unaka, but I hope he didn't enter the season wanting to lose games by 30-40 points. Truth is, this sends a message to the TSSAA. Because a 4 win Lake County (1A) team lost in the last seconds to Humboldt and missed the playoffs. Instead, Lake a County was watching their neighbors Union City beat Middleton (2-8) 74-0 because Middleton's region has 4 teams. That right there is what bugs me, and bugs H.S. Football fans across the state. Just Examples like that. So it's more than just 'coaching' on a reason why a team is 1-9 while giving up 500+ points this year. It could be the lack of talent, lack of depth, resources, not updated facilities, lack of support, or it could be just the fact that Unaka is not a football school. I hate for their basketball program because I don't think they deserve to get their postseason eliminated when the season starts next week. It just shows you how screwed up the TSSAA, really is.
  18. Please inform me on why the State Championship game is at Cookeville anyway? I know they moved the championship weekend from MTSU to Tennessee Tech, but why? I honestly would love the state championship games to be played at Vanderbilt. It's pretty much in the middle of the state, a great city, and it has turf. In a matter of that, I would love for all the state championship games to be played at Vanderbilt University. With the basketball players able to play at Memorial Gym and the baseball tournament to play at Vanderbilt, that experience will be amazing for the athletes who worked hard to get there. I understand it being at MTSU and Vandy doesn't have a softball program, but that would be cool for it to be played at Vandy. The truth is, I want whats best for the kids. And I know a lot of High School fans across our beautiful state want that as well. But I looked at the 6A bracket to see the scores and it's awful. The only 'upset' was Collierville beating Wilson Central. But seeing scores of 49-3..38-7..43-0...63-0..48-0..56-14 is not good. That's bad. I know all the 6A teams are playoff teams, but seeing those types of scores are bad for 1A-5A schools that barely missed the playoffs that could've done better. I'm not dogging 6A because they're scores like that in other classifications. But I think the TSSAA needs to start considering adjusting the playoff fomat in the future, or this will go on for a while in 1A-5A classes. The production on the field in November across the state is making it a water-down system. That's all!
  19. Thanks for starting this thread early this morning and not late last night while fans are still traveling at home. The addiction to the T, is real...
  20. I was at this game and I was impressed with Riverside. About a year ago when Coach Robertson announced his resignation as football coach, I knew whoever the next head coach would be in for a rude awakening. They lost a lot of Seniors off last years team and here they are. I'll be the first one to admit, I was wrong. Heck, I'll even admit that I was scratching my head over the hiring of Coach Frost because of he resume at previous school(s). I know it's a small sample size, but it appears to be a good hire so far. Congratulations to Riverside on the victory! Drake Smith reminds me a lot like Camden's quarterback Hayden Abernathy. Jackson Christian played hard, but they relied to Whittmore a little too much and it appears that he got exhausted at the end. Pretty good football game in Jackson! Goodluck to Riverside next week! Bring out those broomsticks Region 5-2A!
