Ok , old granpa here. I am sincerely not trying to belittle anyone coach or player but there are some things that need to be changed and its not that complicated. The Rebels could have beaten SC last night if the right player was Qb'n. #1 is an athlete and should be running and catching the ball. # 78 should be Qb'n , he can throw it on a wire and is tall and can see down field. #1 , #5 #21 and several others should be running and catching the ball for TDs all the time. #78 is wasted on the line. There are other players on the side line that can block.

DEFENSE: Is pretty solid on the line and the ends and lbs are tough, The secondary needs to be worked with on coverages and playing like Maryville DBs , like LBs. The defense held a good SC team to 12 pts and were on the field alot.

This is just some observation by an old granpa. If these things are not done it is my opinion that it will be a long season,

The youngins put up a healthy fight Thursday night but the offense just cant get it done. Turnover or 2 hurt us but even without those I do not think we score. Our offensive scheme has not produced but 1 TD so far. I just do not understand why coaches cannot see the problem when EVERYONE else in Maryville can.  I really do not think its a numbers issue , it goes much higher than that. I guess the shadow is so large that it breeds some defiance.

Very good game. I was wrong on score. You guys gave us the toughest game yet, hats off. I'd have to say you guys are evenly matched with us. The so called 'Hoover Qb" is not a qb. Also coaching may be a not as good as ours. The sole reason my son did not attend the middle school program. Good game. Best of luck to you guys rest of the season

I will say this Govanator, there's one kid who plays for Sentell that is eligible to play for Maryville JH but because of his age chose to stay with the 12u team. Your comment in the another thread about your son being the starter for every team in the county wouldn't apply if he was playing for Maryville Middle.

Unfortunately for Jay though there are a lot of 1st and 2nd year players on his team who are not used to hitting. Also not having #2 or #1 from the Rebs team hurts a little because I think they could play right now, but this 8th grade class will have to learn from this year and get better for the future.

I will disagree. He decided to stay back to dominate 12 year olds. He is a great athlete with good skills. He played behind my son on the Cubs a couple years ago. The difference in Braden and Parker is Parkers strength and speed. Braden is still young and immature. Very very good athlete. Him and Parker will be on same travel team in November for Larry Hodge. I'd bout bet he won't start over him. Don't get me wrong I think Braden is great but his future will be a wideout. Also yes Parker would start for any team in the county. Alcoa tailback played behind him as well and will again in November. Jay wanted him to play tailback and we left last min. Strictly to get more carries in a pro style offense. #1 will be a heck of a qb. I know this kid and his family well.

I wasn't taking jabs at everyone just Rebelhell. Lol. Have a good one - Chris Mcgill

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
