Can someone please tell me what year TN transitioned to 5 on 5 basketball rules for girl's play? Sometime in the early 80's, I think, but I need to know the exact year- Thank you

1980, was the first year of 5 on 5

The Pickett County Lady Bobcats

Won 4 straight championships from

77, 78, 79, 80. Thus being the last 

team to win it 6 on 6, then the first team 

to win it 5 on 5 in 1980. I was part of that

team.

Pickett County Lady Bobcats won four straight from 77 78 79 and 80. The last year they won the State Championship was the first year of 5 on 5. 1980, I was part of that team.

I was in high school at the the time of the changeover. It soon became apparent that previously great players where not nearly as great when it came to playing both offense and defense.

Thank you and congrats on the state titles/ you should be proud... jerilyn Harper played at my old high school and broke the scoring record in the old 6-6 days. She played well in college, even coming out of the archaic high school rules for girls/ thanks again

Oklahoma was the last to change in 1995... crazy to think about it taking them that long to get with the program

True. Plus you had to decide if you were an offensive player or a defensive player. Crazy to think that the powers that be felt at that time that full court basketball was too strenuous on the female body. LOL

Not True for Pickett County. Didn't miss a beat and three of the seniors of the 1980 championship team played collegiate basketball.
