Norman Dale
Another big win for ET in Arby’s Classic as Dobyns-Bennett knocked off Mater Academy of Florida 65-64 today.
Chinadog
Bearden and Webb are still alive in the winners bracket at the Arby's classic. Webb plays North Mecklenburg, NC and Bearden takes on Columbus, MS . If they both win, they would pay each other in the finals!
QSouth89
I’m curious to know why a team like Maryville, Fulton, Catholic, Powell or AE haven’t been invited to the Arby’s? These teams have consistently won in the Knox area. Do you have to submit an application or is it by invite only? chill
Invite Only. Usually based on state tourney appearances. I’m sure Fulton has been asked.

After talking with a former a Fulton Assistant coach he’s quite sure the Falcons have never been asked. He hasn’t coached there in a while though. Teams like Oak Ridge, Bearden, AE, Maryville, and Catholic have made multiple state tournament appearances over the years (at least 3 each). I could be wrong but I don’t recall many of those upper east TN teams making state tournaments (other than DB, Science Hill, Greeneville and Tennessee High). Oh well it is what it is. I assumed you needed a big name recruit to be invited.
Norman Dale
Oak Ridge has played in the Arby’s Classic recently. Maryville also played in it once somewhere around 2002 when Lee Humphrey was playing. They always invite several local upper ET and SW Virginia teams. Chinadog
I think there is a small bias towards the upper east TN teams. Not sure about the Webb connection, but the coach of Bearden was the coach at Cherokee HS previously. Agree that Maryville and Catholic should be there. Some of the east TN teams didn't perform well. Chinadog
Both Bearden and Webb lost in the semis in close games and played each other for third and fourth place. Bearden won a close one against Webb. Trent Stephney (Bearden), Ques Glover(Bearden), Myles Rasnick (Knox Webb) and Chase Ridenour Knox Webb) made the 2017 Arby's Classic All Tournament Team. Those two guards from Bearden are extremely talented. Good showing and represented 4AAA well. I think Bearden played in the Arby's when Blevin's coached there. WBNC83
The teams from Upper East TN performed alright. I believe DB won their first game against a team from Florida (and finished 6th overall). TN High also played a few close games. Science Hill probably got the worst draw of the tournament opening vs Columbus, MS with their next game vs the team from Charlotte (North Mecklenberg). Those two teams played one another in the championship game last night. The competition at the Arby's is top notch every year. It's been a long time since a team from Upper East TN won it. It's a great tournament though and gives the area teams a chance to play against some of the best competition in the country. It helps prepare them come tournament time too.
