McMinn County -vs- Bradley County

Hard to believe I haven't see a thread about this game. So here it goes.

This is arguably the oldest rivalry game in the state of TN. the two teams have played 94 times with Bradley leading the series 52-39-3.

This year should be an interesting game with both teams being similar to one another on both sides of the ball. They both operate out of the shotgun in the "spread" offense. On defense McMinn is primarily a 4-3 and Bradley is a 3-4.

McMinn last won at Bradley in 2013 on an extremely muddy field as nasty weather suspended the game from Friday night to Saturday evening.

Coach Cagle is 7-5 against the Bears and Coach Floyd is 6-6 against the Cherokees.

This is the type of game where you throw our the record book and sometimes the rule book. Its Black & Gold against Black & Gold....

Field will be a quagmire even if rain stopped today.  It has never drained well.

A couple of corrections to your post. The record is 53-39-3 and Coach Floyd is 6-7 in 13 seasons vs the Cherokees. Both teams have played continuously since 1927.

Rockwood and Harriman have played continuously since 1924. They first met in 1921 but skipped 1922 and 1923. 58-41-4 for Rockwood.

South Pittsburg and Marion County have played continuously since 1924. 50-40-4 for SP.

Baylor and McCallie first played in 1905 but due to the hatred between the two schools they did not play from 1940-1970. Baylor leads 47-40-4.

Best of luck to the Bears and Cherokees and bring your galoshes. You'll need them.

It was a great rivalry when you were in high school.  The 1987 game (your Jr. year) was certainly a classic with McMinn winning a close game at Bradley.  The Cherokee's all-state punter Mark Plaster blasted a couple of coffin corners inside Bradley's 5 yard line.  Bradley came into that game with an 8-0 record and McMinn was 7-1, the best I remember.  Each team had a future SEC commit on their roster.

McMinn coaches and fans have to feel good about the improvement they've seen this year since the first game, since they have about 55 freshmen and sophomores on the team, with many staring and in the two-deep.

Tonights game at Bradley after all the rain from this week will be interesting. Their field drains poorly and typically turns into mud. Good footing will be hard to come by as the game progresses and could play a pivotal role in the outcome of the game.

I like McMinn in this one.

McMinn 28

Bradley 20

    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
