The kids can be either off the wall, inexperienced, or just inconsistently absent. Personally I feel you should coach it like a Varsity practice. Start with stretches. Go to individual, get water, come back for a second individual, get water, then go team. Make a schedule. Monday is conditioning and film/installs https://mobdro.bio/ . Tuesday is Special teams, Wednesday is offense, Thursday is defense, and Fridays are walkthroughs/scrimmage/7on7. Let it be boring with the same stuff and same structure. Put a big focus on verbage and rules. Especially lining up and going on different counts. Coaching middle school athletics takes a special person with a lot of patience. Having done this for a number of years I will say that I truly believe in the following: 1. No more than 8 games per season and no less than 6 games per season. 2. Run the exact offense and defense as the high school program and use the same terminology. The end goal is to win a state championship in high school, not working to become the middle school national champion. 3. Focus on fundamentals and not winning games. If the kids have great fundamentals going into high school, it makes things much easier for the high school coach to implement schemes. 4. Maybe the most important thing is to teach the kids & parents that hard work pays off and the parents have absolutely zero say as to how the program is run. Turtle
Why Alcoa Middle School don't participate in TMSAA league?

Just a guess, but TMSAA only takes your money and limits the amount of time that you can get with the entire team on the field (practice and game). As cbg expertly outlined, the real reason that middle school football is important is for the kids to learn to play the game the right way, and to have fun doing it.

I mean I agree that little league is where you learn the game the right way but if they have so many High School titles why not let the Middle School go grab some as well. However, AE middle School team just beat Alcoa Middle School team 20-8 . With that said, do ALcoa go out and recruit more players or will they coach these current players on the middle School team? Not disagreeing with you at all about the titles, but there are titles outside of TMSAA as well. Just pointing out the restrictions that are imposed by TMSAA that systems may choose not to abide by and go another route.

Rec League titles means nothing compared to STATE TITLES...

No, your post about something being ignorant without a full explanation is what's not very intelligent. May I take a moment to inquire as to what is not smart about my post and exactly how many years have you coached middle school athletics? The middle school program that I previously coached at is the feeder for a high school that has won multiple state championships. The high school head coach selects all of the coaches for elementary school, middle school and the high school team.

NFL coaches could make the same statements regarding college teams. Obviously you lost most your games but the high school staff was able to make winners out of them regardless of your inability to teach them how to win. Then, then, you want to pound your chess to somehow take credit for how well they did in high school. Sometimes it is the middle school coach who is good and can win undefeated championships and then those kids move up to high school and go 2-8 all 4 years there. I have just explained why your theory is ignorant. It was your request.

Now the elementary school team finished most years with a .500 record. Again, it’s how you finish and not where you begin. How many years have you coached at the middle school or high school level?
