Trusayer
Hendersonville boys basketball team have some of the best talent in the region yet they continue to get out coached. This has been a constant for this coach as he once was the girls coach back in 2010. He killed the program then and is doing the same today to the boys. Time for new leadership. Current coaching effort is inept. I hear he is a great classroom teacher and that is great. Reason for post, I’ve been following a few of the players for several years thru middle school and AAU. This is the only coach in the Sumner county area to not benefit from the available talent pool. He has multiple guys on the team that should be recognized weekly but nothing to report under his guidance. Check the coach’s record, talk with the parents, and ask alumni that played for him. It is a Losing program. The community is not proud and HHS should make a change for the sake of the current players and future of the program. If it were a winning program beyond the wins & losses, I would not be making this call. The kids deserve better. The community deserves better. mondo44
Long time HHS sports fan here. Over 30 years have been to a lot of football, basketball, baseball, softball, and soccer games. Add in a few track meets. Boys BB has been to the state tourney 1 time (92 with the Kerry West, Kevin Fields team). Went to the sub state with the Bubba Smith team in 94-95. To be fair let’s look at the current soph, juniors, and seniors records from middle school from 2017-2019 (Ellis and Hawkins). It was 45-42. In other words average. Station Camp, Hunter, and Doss are better almost every year. Neither Ellis or Hawkins has won a regular season county championship since 2009. As far as College players go I can remember Kerry West playing at Belmont, Bubba Smith playing at Furman and Jeff Long playing at Lee, don’t remember any others. If you go to the Commando BB website and look at the rosters from the past 20 years I see a lot of good young men, a lot played football, don’t see many great basketball players. The talent comment is laughable, lot of good young men, don’t see great basketball. HHS has a great winning tradition in Soccer with numerous state titles, football with 4 state finals appearances , golf with numerous state titles and state tourney appearances, baseball with 4 state tourney appearances. Obviously you are a disgruntled parent. If you have a problem go see Principal Cotter. Do not denigrate HHS on line. You have what 2 posts, disgusting!

WhereYouAt
My only question is who is the person that is determining the talent is so great? Where did you get that from?

HHS also made an appearance in the TSSAA AAA State Tournament in 2003 with Kerry West as the Head Coach. Andy Wicke was on the team with several talented players. Also a trip to the sub-state where they lost to a very good Maplewood Team I believe. Not sure what year it was. But you are correct with everything you say Mondo. Seems like someones mommy or daddy found CoachT. Welcome to the T Trusayer. Can you even name the teams in the region that HHS competes in? MichaelMyers76
To say that HHS is loaded with talent is laughable. Their talent level is on par with their results. I am not around the program day to day to comment on the coaching aspect, but the talent level for AAA basketball is below average. They have about the same talent as Mount Juliet this year. MJ kids just play harder. Much easier to see the obvious when you are not invested in the program. Take a step back and take off the rose colored glasses. Trusayer
Absolutely nothing to do with playtime and everything to do with being a good leader / mentor. The boys do not respect him because he lacks respect towards them. If Commandos keep him, the program will continue to be a disappointment for all involved. Since 2014 joining the Varsity Boys coaching staff, the team has had a losing record every year. Since becoming the head coach (2017-18), the district record is 12 - 28. When rehired as a head coach after a dismal first go as the girls head coach, he stated in the Hendersonville Standard that he will be judged by his district record. Look at the girls record during his tenure 2005 - 2011. He had a losing record every year. Google Clancy Hall to see comments from that period and you will find multiple folks feel the same way every parent feels today. He might be a great classroom teacher but he offers no athletic team chemistry. The kids deserve better. We can do better.

This is typical of the AAU/travel ball coach who knows more than the high school coach. What exactly is your background in coaching? Obviously your son is still not getting the minutes/shots he wants. Players should always be patted on the back and told how good they are, right?
