Wondering why Oliver went to DB rather than Science HIll?  Does his family reside in Kingsport, or JC?  I assumed that the ETSU coach would live in JC, and if so, that would have to sting the coaching staff at Science Hill.

If they are JC residents, how does Kingsport city schools allow Johnson CIty residents to attend?  I'd guess that it's the same as any tuition student, although you generally associate tuition students as being from the county, rather than other cities.

I honestly have no clue how that works.  I know someone who has a Kingsport address, whose daughter runs cross country and track for D-B, but whose son plays basketball at Science Hill.

I’ll just post what I’ve heard. I’ve been told the Oliver family lives in Johnson City. I’ve also been told that the family toured Science Hill (and was pleased with what they saw) sometime early last summer. At the time, Cutlip was still the HC for the Toppers. This is where things apparently went downhill. Word is the family was not impressed at all with Cutlip and how he ran “his program”. It’s amazing the amount of talent that man seems to have run off during his time at The Hill.

Cutlip ends up resigning but it took about a month for a new coach to be hired and the Oliver kid was already enrolled at DB and the decision from his family had been made and settled on.

Your way off on that comment. I ask the same question to the SH coach Saturday He said the Oliver kid was coming to SH and was playing for Cutlip like his style of coaching but when he resigned The AD Turner wouldn't tell him who the coach was going to be so he took him to DB .But said the youngest Oliver was coming to SH next year

I’m only going off what I was told. I will say that like you, I have heard the younger Oliver boy will be at Science Hill next year and playing for Higgins.

Well, either the competition in Florida was weak or we found something because we swept all three games down there.  I did see where Gillespie and Day are now back in the lineup, so I am sure that helped a bunch as well.  Next week should be an easy game with Volunteer Tuesday followed by Karns next Friday.  Is Karns typically any good most years?

Karns is 4-1. Lost to a good Farragut team by about 10. Beat Science Hill by about 25.  So DB will have to be on top of their game to beat them. Still too early to know if DB has a good team this year. I'd say the lopsided loss to Tennessee High puts them in the negative category opposed to any wins in Florida. The Karns game will tell us a lot. But like I said, still too early.

I heard from Wilmoth just now that Oliver broke his wrist in Florida. If true that'll hurt.

Dang, DB finally wins a state championship and now the Piper is coming hard for his payment. First they lose they're gym and have no home games then they have a key player suspended and now their top scorer breaks his wrist.  What the heck?

    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
    • What is the hold up here? I have not heard anything in weeks. Are they waiting for the right person or is something else going on?
    • Per usual, we'll be hard to beat in the regular season, I'm sure. It's the post season that I'm more worried about, specifically the coaches. Maybe they'll be able to make some adjustments that will keep the momentum in our favor. How's Grays recovery coming along?
    • Something don’t add up here a college coach is not going to turn away a good player they need just because they didn’t get along with their high school coach
    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
