After week7, here are the Region 7-3A standings. Schools are listed with their region record, followed by their overall won-lost record.

Dyersburg.           4-0  7-0

Ripley                    4-1  5-2

Westview              3-1  4-3

Covington             3-1  5-2

Bolivar.                  1-3  4-3

Scotts Hill.             1-3 2-5

McNairy Central   0-4 1-6

Liberty Magnet.    0-3   0-6

Westview and Covington have the same region record at 3-1. Covington finishes the regular season by playing Ripley and Westview at home the last two weeks. It appears that those two games will determine the final order of finish for the top four teams. Dyersburg may not mathematically have the Region title clinched, but they are in good shape. However, a loss at Ripley could move them into a tie with Ripley, and Ripley would then win the Region since head-to-head results are the first tie breaker. That’s assuming that Ripley would win their other two games.

There are still a lot of scenarios that can still play out in this region. I believe right now Dyersburg and Ripley are in for sure in the playoffs with 4 region wins. It will be interesting how this one plays out. Although some might not see it as likely, anything can happen in high school football and that is what makes it fun to watch.

Westview has McNairy, Covington has Liberty and we still have Westview/Covington on the last night of the season. While not mathematically guaranteed that we will see both sets of Chargers in the playoffs it is highly unlikely that we will see anyone except Dburg/Covington/Ripley/Westview representing Region 7-3A.

After week 8 here are the Region 7-3A standings per the TSSAA,  Schools are listed with their region record, followed by their overall won-lost record. I have also listed their remaining Region 7-3A opponents

Dyersburg.           4-0  7-0    Scott’s Hill, Liberty, Ripley

Covington.            4-1  6-2     Ripley, Westview

Westview.             4-1  5-3     McNairy, Covington

Ripley                     4-1  6-2    Covington, Dyersburg

Bolivar.                  1-4  4-4     Scott’s Hill, Liberty

Scotts Hill.             1-3  2-5     Dyersburg, Bolivar, McNairy

McNairy Central   0-4  1-6     Liberty, Westview, Scott’s Hill

Liberty Magnet.    0-4. 0-7     McNairy, Dyersburg, Bolivar

This is interesting. Covington, Westview, and Ripley are all tied at 4-1 in the region. Westview has the tie-breaker over Ripley because they won head-to-head.

What if Ripley wins out, beating both Covington and Dyersburg? They could still win the region if Covington knocks off Westview and Dyersburg beats Scott’s Hill and Liberty (a 99% certainty). Then both Ripley and Dyersburg would be 6-1 in the region and Ripley would own the head-to-head tie-breaker.

Y’all tell me if I’m right here. There is still a lot of football to be played, folks.

I guess anything is possible but I just do not see Ripley beating Dyersburg and Covington.

Dburg/Covington/Westview/Ripley will be your four playoff teams. It’s just a matter of seeding but I think the order I have them in is how they finish.

Yep, those four will be going to the playoffs. The bottom four teams are just not competitive, at least this season. I want to take another look at the 8-3A opponents when I get time. I understand that Sheffield has the lead, 5-0 in the region.

Sheffield is a lock for the #1 seed as they have beaten 2-3-4. I haven’t taken the time to see how impressive their resume is.

And yes, if Ripley runs the table they would be 6-1 with Dyersburg and since they would be the only 6-1 teams in Region Ripley would take the #1 seed as they would have the head to head win.

From my interpretation of the standings, Ripley is the only remaining team with a chance at the top seed as Dyersburg will beat Scotts Hill and Liberty to finish the season no worse than 6-1 with the head to head against both Westview and Covington who still have to play one another.
