Kudos to Bearden

My hat's off to the Bulldogs. They played a heck of a game tonight against William Blount, even though they came out on the short end of the score. William Blount was up by around 20 at one time and it would have been easy for the Dawgs to pack it in, considering what all they've been through, but they didn't and they ended up sending the game into overtime.

Some kid who kind of looks like the waterboy (no offense) hit a couple of threes from about 8 - 10 ft. outside the arc. And Matt Cox hit a huge three to send it into overtime. It was almost like the Bearden squad used up everything they had to even it up at the end of regulation and just didn't have anything left for the overtime period.

William Blount showed a lot of character and fortitude to put it away in the overtime, but it was a big scare.

And hats off to Coach Baumann of the Govs. Near the end of the game, the WB cheering section began chanting "You need Cruze." Coach quickly put an end to it. I later heard him say, "Those Bearden kids played way to good and showed too much character and class for our fans to do that." That's why I think Baumann is on his way to being one of the best coaches around. I look forward to my son playing for him someday, I hope.

Redrage,

Yes Bearden meets Farragut at 6:30 on Friday in consolation game. Should be a heck of a contest. Farragut plays hard. It'll be a good up-tempo, trapping, furious type of game I think.

I would not be surprised if all four teams from 4AAA win in their first game's of regional tournament.

Gov Man, thanks for the message. I am not going to blame this loss on them, but you guys got some fine home cooking last night. That is also supposed to be one of the best officiating crews around. We could tell which way the calls were going to go from the opening whistle. After the fact, yes we lost, we will beat Farragut and get ready for the region tournament next week.

The two games were great last night. Bearden w/o Cruze played their butts off. Paul Dickenson........wow dude was hittin from past Humphrey range. Maryville just beat Farragut last night. Both teams played hard and there was arguable calls on both sides but the difference was lee. Farragut looks forward to playin the two seed out of the next district whoever it might be. bearden, as team oriented as they might be, lacks the go to player (no it is not Cox) to win in crunch time. still should be good game anywayz

Dear Dirty Dawg 15,

Just accept a loss bro. Your outmanned squad did an incredible job of just forcing it to overtime. William Blount has no input on the refereeing crews. They are assigned by the powers that be on the district level. The majority of the officials being used are not even from Maryville.

So far, every game that a Bearden team has been involved in the tournament ...boys or girls ... if you base it on a number of very vocal, very unsportsmanlike adult fans that sit in the section right behind the Bulldogs bench, I get the impression that all the referees are out to get your teams.

Its funny, because after close games especially ... you hear people from both teams complaining about how "one-sided" the refereeing was. Refereeing ... it's a tough life.

    • I believe that was last year. I was interested in the Jones vs Baker comment, so I went back and looked at GC. I am not a fan of either nor am I a baseball guru. This looks like to me the duel was not close and if the errors would not have been made Eagleville would have won. I assume you are a little biased. I do think your mph for Jeffcoat and Baker must be from last year.  Baker-85 pitches 67 strikes. 5.2 innings, 5H, 1BB, 0ER and 7K's. 3 errors  Jones- 78 pitches 37 strikes. 4 innings, 2H, 5BB, 0ER and 1K. 1 error   Adams and the UH kid are really good as well. What about South Pitt and Oakdale? I heard they have some good ones.
    • I hate this for all the kids in the program and fans alike. I can't recall of anything like this before in my lifetime but I'm sure it isn't a first. After criminal investigations are complete and the TSSAA looks into this the program it will be facing Nuclear Winter for some time to come. It's always the innocent left behind that end up paying the price for something someone else has done. I'm sure the transfer portal will be very active in Clinton over the summer months. How could you find a good coach worth his salt that would take on a situation like this not knowing what will happen.
    • I’ve seen Jeffcoat in person twice and he was 84-87 both times and the one time I saw Baker he was low 80’s, he actually got out dueled by Jones from ER in that outing.
    • Pirate fans, thread is up on the baseball message board.
