To be honest, I don't have a lot to add to skunk's message other than I have know Coach Shipley professionally since the early 80's, and because of that relationship I can speak more personally than most about his career. I agree with skunk in that it seems that this type of format would be better served to support whomever you feel would be a good candidate, not to speak negatively about others. However, if that is what floats your boat so be it.

Now, boys, don't make me come down there!

In general I have found that people who make negative comments are either disgruntled untalented players who never saw the court or parents of same who couldn't buy their child playing time with a coach who had integrity.

Yes, Jay Johnson will make an excellent coach. Go Rebels.

Sassymom, I would classify myself as a head coach that knows personally every person that has been mentioned on this thread for the job. Skunk, why did Shipley leave D-B if his reign was so wonderful? I know it wasn't because of the lure of the Anderson Co. job. Why did he leave there as well?? Why did Cookeville remove him if he was so wonderful??? Why did Brentwood Academy have to have the AD sit on the bench with him for half a season???? Why has he continued to apply for every job that comes open, even though he is a head coach????? I know you are not going to tell me he is trying to move up the coaching ladder. From D-B to Centennial's girls is a bit of a drop. :x

Thank you, Mr. DRKNOWS, for clarifying your position. However, you need to get your facts straight. Shipley started at Anderson County, then Oak Ridge and then to DB because that's where his parents live and he played for Buck. Since you are a head coach perhaps you need to call Shipley yourself for the reasons he left those places. Do I sense a little jealousy here? Why are you so antagonistic towards this man that you obviously don't even know? :x

I am torn in two directions on this one. Half of me really wants Coach Johnson to get it. It'd be the easiest transition for the guys to deal with I think. But the other half of me thinks that Coach Shipley would be perfect, too. I knew the Ship when he was at BA and I was at BA. He was nothing but a great person. He was my "counselor" for small group meetings we would have. He's such a good man. And he knows his basketball. There's no doubt about it. I certainly don't want to see Meyer take the job after the MBA mess. I think it's Johnson's to have, but I agree, the school needs to settle it quickly!

    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
