Results from this weekend's Tn Travelers' Smokey Mtn Shootout are posted here........

Results I have in are:

Tn Travelers 16's have won 2 games already, including a blow out of the Knoxville Lakers

Tn Thunder East beat the St Louis Eagles in overtime...

In the game of the day thus far, the Tn Dreams, without two starter, blew a 15 point lead to lose to the Tn Breakers 72-69... The Dreams' Brandon Burney was outstanding, and is quickly establishing himself as one of the best guards in the State...

Gomab,

TN Thunder Select 80 - TN Travellers 68.

Great game by both but the Thunder just had too much guard power. It was definitely a team effort as these are a couple of the deepest teams in TN 16s.

With a win against a tough East Coast Scholastic team this morning the Thunder would be poised to make a 4-0 run heading into the East Sub-state.

Tennessee Travelers Navy 15-u team went 4-0 and the 15-u Orange team was 2-2. The Travelers' 17-u team was undefeated when playing together, including two wins over the Thunder and a great win over the East Coast Scholar Athletes. Because a team didn't show up, they had to split their team for one night session (5 on each team). One team lost a close game to the Breakers and the other lost a close game to Alabama Nike Challenge. The 16-u team was 3-2 - lost two good games to the St. Louis Eagles and Tennessee Thunder. The Thunder 16's were undefeated and the Breakers' 17's lost once to East Coast after beating a good Alabama team.

The TnBreakers defeated the Travelers first six players. Yes, they divided their team, but the Breakers played everyone in that game equal time. The Travlers had Corey Brewer, Dansby, Hare, etc. on the court at all times. I dare say that playing a full game is not too much for these guys since most of them played entire games in close games this year. Also, getting tired is not a valid excuse since the Breakers led after the first quarter, second quarter, led by 10 after three and four at the end. Also, even thought they did divide the teams, the first SIX (not five) stayed and played the Breakers.

The Travelers had only 5 players until the 4th quarter when one of the guards from the other team came up to give them one sub. The Breakers have a great team, but they did not divide playing time equally. They did sub but did not use everyone. I believe the Travelers win if at full strength.

The first five played the first and third quarters, the next five played the second and fourth. The first five did not enter the games at all the second and fourth quarters. I would think that is pretty equally divided. In a couple of the games they head players that played almost the entire game with no break. I would think that players at this level should be able to play a game without having to have many subs. Who knows if the result would have been different, but the BReakers first five against the Travelers first five in both quarters went to the Breakers. I just hate to see any team make excuses. If my team loses I don't make excuses. The Travelers have some of the best players in the state on their team, BUT not all of the best play for them. There are players just as good on some of the other teams. The Breakers have some very good players and played as a team this weekend. I was impressed with them.

The Travelers are not my team and I am not making excuses for anyone. I said that the Breakers have a good team and I was also impressed with them. They divided the time pretty evenly in the first half, but not in the second half. They had players who never left the bench in the second half. I think we all know that any substituting that you are able to do during the course of the game is an advantage at the end of the game, especialy when the other team has not been able to sub. I did not hear anyone say that the Travelers had all of the best players in the state. The Travelers subs are not slouches though, and i still believe that they win if they are able to sub and be fresh at the end of the game. Just my opinion, I am not trying to slight anyone.

If the breakers have 11 people on the team, and 5 play each quarter, then yeah, only then only two people play one quarter while the other 9 play two quarters. it wasn't like the starters were in at the end of the game either. they only played 1st and 3rd quarters. either way, benson still sent his best 5 to play the travelers, not a split team, but his best (and one other in the 4th quarter) what more should the breakers do to make it even?

    • Yeah.  Kids only transfer in and out of Bearden these days, you know.   That particular poster evidentially has a personal vendetta with Josh Jones.   Consider the source.  And the kid transferring to McCallie is a terrific talent, but an opportunity to go to McCallie on scholarship (and I am assuming that is the case) is one that is very much beneficial both athletically and academically.  McCallie is a great school for both.   Bearden will be fine.  And so will both of those kids who decided with their parents/advisors to go elsewhere.
    • I think we are conducting interviews now since we have so many wanting to come to school here and play for a real team with a chance to play in front of lot's of fan's and have a chance to win a championship every year.
    • Esteemed colleagues, On this auspicious Saturday morning, I fortuitously encountered Dr. Satterfield at the Early Bird Cafe, whereupon we engaged in a discourse concerning the pool of candidates vying for a coveted position. Dr. Satterfield, possessing a discerning eye, has graciously shared insights into the contenders, which I shall now relay to you in a structured manner. Eric Vetetoe, though initially absent from my considerations, ascended to the zenith of Clint's roster, poised atop his discerning clipboard as a preeminent candidate. Kyle Gregory, with a coaching demeanor reminiscent of a bygone era, has captivated Clint's admiration. His interview performance, I am informed, left an indelible impression, aligning seamlessly with Clint's nostalgic sentiments. Davy Cothron's cerebral approach to offense, notwithstanding a past championship game setback, garners high praise from Dr. Satterfield. His strategic acumen, it appears, remains unblemished despite previous trials. Brandon Eden's steadfast allegiance to the team, evidenced by his tenure on the creekbank, earns him considerable favor in Clint's estimation. Anticipation lingers as to whether an offer may be extended in recognition of his unwavering dedication. Wesley Satterfield emerges as a compelling candidate following a favorable assessment by Mr. Satterfield himself. The prospect of a Satterfield succession holds a certain allure, embodying continuity and tradition in equal measure. Kyle Shoulders, a surprising entrant in the applicant pool, impresses Clint with his football intellect, potentially positioning him as a contender for the role. Josh Hackett's defensive prowess, particularly in encounters against Trousdale over recent years, earns commendation from Coach Satterfield, underscoring his proficiency in the strategic aspects of the game. John McNeal's track record of success across multiple sports affords him undeniable merit, though the prospect of his acceptance, if offered, remains uncertain. Chad Evitts, a former NFL luminary, presents a unique opportunity, recognized keenly by Mr. Satterfield, to infuse our program with elite expertise and experience. Matt Dyer, revered for his contributions during the regular season, faces scrutiny for his playoff performances, a dichotomy that weighs upon Clint's evaluation. Chuck Gentry, endorsed by Dr. Satterfield, embodies the promise of transformative leadership, drawing parallels to his past triumphs in revitalizing programs akin to ours. Clint extols BJ West's astute management at the middle school echelon, where his strategic maneuver of strategically calibrating the team's schedule to optimize performance stands as a testament to his sagacity and acumen in navigating competitive dynamics. In conclusion, the deliberations surrounding our prospective leadership remain nuanced and multifaceted, underscoring the significance of this decision in shaping the future trajectory of our esteemed institution.
