Field Tarp

With the cost of a field tarp being around $3500.00, I was curious as to why more high school programs don't have one? It would eliminate most of the wet & muddy fields that teams are forced to play on.

There are many reasons why most high school teams don't have tarps. The top 3 have to be 1)They are expensive 2)They are very hard to deal with (putting on and off the field) 3)Nowhere to store them

It also takes MANY hands to get them off and on. You can't leave them on when the sun is out because they will burn the grass. Sometimes you would have to get your team there at 5:30 AM to get it off.

Another big problem that comes with using an infield tarp is, where do you put the water? You can't dump it in the outfield or put in along one of the foul lines, then those areas become a swamp. If you do it right, you prepare an area to roll the tarp with pumps to move the water away from the field.

I play for lookout valley and we have a tarp. it is not hard at all to deal with. the water never really swamps the outfield either.

Same here we have one at lipscomb and its not really a problem. its not one the most fun thing to do but it takes maybe 15 minutes to put it up and less than that cover the field.

We at Rockwood just got a tarp and we are already getting decent at putting it on and taking it off. It's really fun, especially when not in uniform and are able to get soaked and slide around. The outfield and/or foul territory soaks it up well so it does not get swamped too easily. I wish every school/team had one. It would make getting in the schedule much easier.

Yeah it would be good if all the schools had a tarp. I dont play baseball but its a shame that the games have to be cancelled cause of rain. But you can always make them up. But i notice that all the players get really mad when there is a game that is cancelled. I really dont blame them. But there is nothing that they can do if it is cancelled but wait it out and see what happens.
