Well it does seem kind of costly and a long time to file this if it happened a year ago but u got to think of this if he got 20 stiches like that one post said he had a big gash! Not a 20 million doller gash but certainly if u have 20 stiches on your cheak thats not goin to just heal over and i don;t blame the parents for trying to get compensation, but 20 million is way to much. Sorry if some are offended and i dont; know the full story but it does seem like the kid has somthing coming to him if not from the injury from the imbaresment he has to b feeling

Weren't there also some issues about the timing of the initial notification of the parents after the injury? I don't know all the circumstances, but if my kid comes out of a high school football locker room with 20 stitches at the hand of his coach, I'm going to want some answers - quickly. The first person I'd expect to see would be the coach and he'd better have a strong sense of remorse - followed closely by the principal. Then I'd expect first class medical attention complete with ambulance and police escort, plastic surgeon to take care of the scarring. None of this at my expense. If all of this happened, I wouldn't sue. If not - bring on the Johnnie Cochran. This lawsuit appears a slam dunk.

Yes...after halftime the coaches and team (minus the injured kid) went back out on the field and Momma didn't see her boy and had to go looking for him. I still believe that had the coach sent the other coaches and the team out while he made sure Momma and her boy were taken care of to their satisfaction, nothing would have ever come of it. Sometimes bad judgement can cost a person alot more than bad actions.

RTG, the point about the kid of the parents being embarrassed is one thing I am striking at.

While I don't condone the coach's actions and I do think some kind of settlement should be made--though not against the school board, principal, etc. as these people plan on attacking--I do think the parents of this kid our blowing this way out of proportion.

It will damage the city of McMinnville's reputation as well as the Warren County school system--I mean even a million or so could fund much needed academic programs, but $20 million??

I've seen parents publicly humiliate their kids before by attacking a school board.

That kid, while he may receive a few million from Warren County, will be an enemy to that county and any school board at any of his future schools will be on their guard for sure. This kid may not play any sports ever again in his school career, and that's sad because sports is very important in developing an individual's confidence while developing him physically. I wished I'd played a sport when I was his age. You just don't get that many opportunities.

If he tries to play a sport at his new school, chances are he won't get to play and he'll be sitting as far away from the coaches as possible. People are going to look at him as an "at risk" case. If something bad happens to him, they could get sued. I mean, look at what's going on with his situation with Warren County?! What happens if the kid received any permanent damage from an injury sustained in a game--one that physically disables him??

These parents seem obsessed with revenge and greed and those will send their son into a psychological downfall. Don't say it won't happen, because I've seen it happen!

Rustynail, this isn't work!! We're talking about football where tempers flair and sometimes coaches try to get kids motivated during halftimes. No, you shouldn't motivate by throwing helmets, but it slipped from the coaches hand and was an accident. I don't think your boss would jump up on his desk during lunch break and give you the ol "lets win won for the gipper" speech would he. The way you and Deltavian talk you must not have played football or organized sports. Thats the problem with kids today. As soon as their scolded by a coach, or got their feelings hirt, the kids run to their parents and blow it out of proportion. stink it up kids and parents and play ball. I'm not saying this is a mild situation but my god a lawsuit and 20M dollars???? And Yes, medical staff was right outside the door when it happened.. The cut was treated, parents were notified in the stands. EMT's also looked at it and he was taken to the hospital. In this day though, parents think that if your not an EMT then you don't know what your talking about when trainer's are actually more qualified to take care of things of this nature. I don't think that Rusty and Del know of the harrassment from the parents that continued in the stands for the rest of the year. And yes the lawsuit was served to Tidwell during halftime of this year's second game.

Hey i agree with u all the way on that one man but u know this kid has to feal about 2 inches tall i mean there is a post on here that we are talking about, running him and his family down so u got to feel a little bit sorry for the guy u know. But whats really sad is the kid got hit by an angry coach, had to recieve 20 stiches to his face, relocate to another town, cost his former school and teamates money for his crazy parents, and nobody feels sorry for this guy. Its somthing when all this can happen to a kid and nobody feels sorry for him.

I don't know the head coach at all. But I do know all the things that the parents and yes THE KID himself did afterwards. You can get on here and feel sorry for the kid and parents all you want but until you know everything they did to bring this to a boil, I don't want to here. You also don't realize the measure that the school admin. and the coaches went to trying to reconsile the situation.

Well I did play ball for 11 years....however Polesit it is not work, your absolutely right this is a child and a school administrator. I have no problem with a coach yelling and whatever else he thinks will motivate his team, but when a kid gets injured from it ,someone is responsible. You have got to be the parent that gets fired up in the stands and makes a scene. You sir could be the next hockey dad. Road Rage is ok too......right?

Thats what should have resolved everything, a heart to heart talk between the dad and coach(which I believe did happen). Thats my point, not trying to be a hockey dad and all. You sound like the type that would bring out the lawsuit at the drop of a hat also Rusty. I mean that's what its all about right, money!!! Because it sure isn't saving the respect of your family, friends, and the community that you once lived in. Greed is a sin last time I checked!
