What about Pair (I think that is his name) from Page? He was tough last year and didn't look very big. Don't count out Bundy from Hendersonville either. But, my from-the-heart picks for the finals: Bird (Northwest) pins Royster (Red Bank)

If Bird was the Northwest kid that I saw get punished by some kid from Kenwood at Montgomery Central's takedown tournament this weekend then he will be nowhere near the state finals. As for 103, if the Kenwood kid is at that weight he will be a force. He was unstoppable. Does anyone out there know his name. I definitely think he will be a force in Chattanooga in February. He looked untouchable against a pretty good Northwest wrestler.

I wasn't able to be at the takedown tournament, but my understanding is that the Kenwood wrestler that Bird faced in the finals was a 112 pounder. It's also a shame that the NW wrestler was injured. I would love to see them face each other later on in the season. And as far as quoting my picks for the state finals, make sure you read it all. That is my "heartfelt pick". I have had the opportunity to coach both of those guys and they have my respect. At least they don't attempt to trash fellow athletes by saying they have no chance.

Hey guys,

Here comes a really good freshman who will be a contender this year, maybe not for first, but I see him in the 3rd or 4th range. Baukey of CBHS has been wrestling for a long time and he is sort of a pitiful kid to look at (no muscle tone, no fierceness on the mat), but he handled Collierville junior Mike Hammond at Germantown last weekend in the finals. He looked very technically sound. He wrestled 112, but I don't really know what weight he'll be wrestling at during the season. All I can say is that out here in the west, we haven't seen a freshman kid look this good in a while. Look for that name on the placers' board in months to come--Baukey.

Gumbi let's set the record straight. 1st if Bird was hurt then the 2 technicals falls he had in the matches before were great work for a guy with an injury, 2nd Accurate sources confirms Snake's wieght at 108 Bird also was confirmed to weigh 108. The weight class was 100-110 for this event. 3rd straight from the mouth of Jamal "Snake" Shelton' "I'll make 103." We'll see wheather or not that is true throughout the year. 4th Bird looked heathly until the 4th time he was taken straight to his back then he did showed signs of a limp. Bird is a very good wrestler, one that needs not to have others make excuses for him. He lost to a guy that weighed the same weight...it happens every match, someone loses. Bird will be very successful this year, but all signs point to the Kenwood kid being better at this point in the season at least at takedowns.

i believe gumbi was talking about Bird getting hurt in that match and not being hurt coming into the tournament. Who was ur very accurate sources. I like bird and he would be the first one to say that he wrestled like crap in that match not saying he could have beat him if he was well and at his best but he could have done better than that.

Name is spelled Baucke

Sorry. Is this one of the CBHS coaches---if so, what weight is the kid going? He looks great for a freshman, and he beat Hammond (who I think will place in D1 at 112 this year). How do you think he will do, and when will we see him wrestle some quality D2 kids? Are y'all going to Blackhorse or Kenwood?

    • What we have here is an influx of outsiders raining down on the town of Maryville like a swarm of locust trying to change our culture into the same crap they moved away from. I have no issues with anyone coming here but don't bring your politics with you. Most people around here never pay attention to the elections and keep letting the same ole rats and vermin right back in the back door and wonder why things are like they are. The problem at Maryville High is mainly due to letting outsiders get a foothold on control and shove their agenda down everyone's throat. Anyone that leaves there or let's say ranoff are replaced with an outsider with the same mindset. Eventually Maryville High will never be the same as it once was which I'm beginning to believe already but it's only chance of survival are to recruit people that will get in there and reverse the damage that has already happened.
