District 2AA has 9 teams this year and they are not using that format this year. Teams #8 will play a play in game for the right to play the #1 team. All teams in 2AA must win 1 game in order to advance to the Regionals. But you are right Stokomo, we did use the format that you are using last year. I personally am not a fan of the format.

lets see - 8 teams. that makes a pretty straight forward bracket. you get rewarded by playing number 8. we don't need the tournament if we just want to send people on without playing the one and done pressure games. thats what tournament time is all about. and by the way north finished first in baseball last year and voted against #1 getting a bye in baseball this year.

I read the article in question online. It does seem like a screwed up bracket, but does that make it ok for the writer to bash the coaches the way he did. In my area, he would have a very hard time getting quotes for a while. If 8 teams voted, he should have been able to find at least five guys that voted for it. maybe it didn't look as hard as he claimed. From the outside looking in, it still should be a great tounament. Volunteer could end up the 4 seed if they are not careful. It's anybody's tournament.

So did someone complain last year about the bye in baseball? And that is North's business. If I was supposed to be number 1 i would vote for the bye. The problem is what if the predicted number 1 isn't....is that where the problem is?

I might add I believe in giving the regular season champs a break but I am not necessarily a big fan of two teams with a bye. Yes 1 vs 8 should be a break but is it in the conference this year?

and calling the brackets asinine and I quote "The result is an asinine bracket devised by the Watauga" is totally uncalled for and I doubt there was alot of research. If this one is asinine then alot of districts across the state are using asinine brackets

For those of you who do not know, Billy Dixon's brother is an assistant basketball coach and is the head baseball coach at Sullivan North, one of the teams disavantaged by the bracket. It is nothing but sour grapes. Everybody knew what the rules were at the start of the season. It should have given all the teams something to play for.

I am not a big fan of the system but it is what the coaches and athletic directors agreed on and we will have to live with it. In Volunteer's case that is A-ok. Last year was even worse in my opinion. Only the top team got assured of going to the regional without winning a game. On the other side of the coin, look at 1-AAA (a seven team league) D-B and Science Hill tied for the conference championship but Science Hill lost a coin toss and D-B gets an automatic trip to the regional tournament and Science Hill must win a game to advance.

Thanks ShotCaller for the link to the article. Seems like to me every one of the Watauga teams knew from the beginning of the year how the tourney would play out. They each had an equal opportunity to win games. Some got it done and some didn't. Funny, has anyone heard complaints form the schools or coaches?... nope. Just Mr. Dixon.

I've seen this before in Jackson. A member of the media wrote some articles from an obvious biased position, leaning toward what I was told his old high school. The other high school coaches and players quit giving him any interviews.

Just ignore the guy and he'll go away. :D

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
