Having not seen the whole county, its hard to name a team, but I'll chip in what I've seen.

Matt Solima gets the Grit Award. I have stained in my mind the toughness he showed at Brentwood and the way he wouldn't quit. All year, he's had to make plays in the clutch and make comebacks, and he's come through. I bet he'd love another shot at Lincoln County.

I would say that Curtis Steele is the best back and the newcomer of the year for the county. Leading the way with over 1100 yards in the regular season and averaging 8 yards per carry, he was oustanding all year. He chipped in with big special teams returns and a receiving touchdown as well.

The most dangerous player in the county would have to be Joe Bell. Blazing speed and elusive running ability make him almost unstoppable. If you dare kick it to him or leave him a seam with the ball, kiss it goodbye.

Theo Townsend gets my vote for toughest to tackle. His speed and dense frame allow him to bounce around anything and everything in his way.

Michael Smithson was the best offensive lineman I saw this year. Not just physically imposing, his footspeed and leadership helped him be the heart of an offensive line that pushed the Cougars through adversity all year.

David Holbert gets the Man award, as he is just that. I couldn't get over how physically dominant he is and he plays that way. He's beyond physical. I'd say he's voilent. An awesome LB and a tough FB as well, he is a man among boys.

And for my biased money, Phillip Bates is the best player in the county. Tough as nails and the heart to match. He rushed for 900 yards and 10 scores on offensive and paced the defense from his LB spot, making big plays all year. He rose to the challenge when the call was put on him all year and is the heart of a very gutsy group of kids.

    • Groves got the ball over 20+ times. His son arguably played the best for East in that game. 3rd and long multiple times and he came up big to continue a couple drives. Please shut up for the 3rd year in a row
    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
