Jarret Jones - Chester County

Jarrett Jones - A great player and person!!!! Doesn't quite get the recognition he really deserves. I am betting that if he is in the right system, that he will average about 25 to 30 points a game and still get 10 assist. Really - if there is any negative thing about Jarrett it is that he is too nice and unselfish (don't you wish you could say that about most of HS ball players). Somebody open the gates for him, design the team around him and tell him to please shoot the ball!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know there is alot of talk about Kemp - but in my opinion this is the guy to watch!!! He can jump out of the gym. Does anybody know who is recruiting him??

I dont know who is recruiting this kid, but ive been watching him plat since age 12, and he is very talented. He may even have more talent than his brother, Eric. Do you remember him. He is a very good kid, but if its not in his personality to want to be a star you cant make him. He can only do what his coach wants. He will be seen. As a wise person once told me " Your GIFT will make room for you."

I agree that some of the attention will come naturally, but I still feel this guy is a real quality basketball player that the college coaches must be missing (I base this on purely what I am seeing and hearing through the Jackson Sun Sports - which is lobsided anyway, ignorantly or purposely I do not know) . I am not saying this young man should be recruited by Duke, but he has the qualities that coach K looks for - gifted athletically - court smarts - great team ball player (even to the extent of taking the lesser roll when he should be leading) - and academically I am betting he is at the top of his class. I am not trying to take anything away from the Bolivar or South Side players, they are good, but Jarrett deserves that much and more attention. I do not know Jarrett's brother, but I know his dad and mom in passing and this is a good family. A "star" sometimes doesn't know how to shine unless his coach guides him that way (please coach don't take that wrong). The college recruiters are missing a "gem in the rough" if they are bypassing Jarrett - coach K included ;) !!!!

Fan000,

Duke?? I have a very good friend that was not very decorated out of high school, only avg 10 points. He had a coach that would not help him go. He went on to JUCO and averaged 20ppg. Then went to a NAIA school and averaged 25 and was an All-American. I wont reveal my identity, but I was up for the most prestigious honor in TN, went on to play DI, and now im here posting on coach T, while he is on his way to the Phillipines to make nearly 6 figure dollars. The point is its about talent, timing and having a little luck on your side. Jarret is a smart kid and will play college ball somewhere. What happens next who knows. Kemp, the Delks, and co. are getting attention soley because of their youth, and upside. They are talented young players, with good size. But no one knows what will happen to them when they get to college.

Hoopsguru79,

"coach that would not help him go" ugh!! That makes me sick!

Wonder if he would have had a chance to go the major college route instead of JUCO? You will never know because the coach did not step up and sell this player. To me pro ball is ok, but major college basketball is the best!!

As for coaches that do not care - I have met them and experienced the pain they can give out. There are no alternatives for a player that has a coach like this in high school. You just bite the bullet and hope for the best. Sometimes $50,000 to $100,000 scholarships depends on these coaches (if you can call them that).

As for Jarrett and Duke - it is obvious that he will not be recruited by coach K, but I am saying he has these superior qualities that most coaches die for - again, if he doesn't go as high or higher than some of the local talent, it will be a shame!!! I haven't met his brother, but I am betting he is a good coach. I assume he is at JCM - which needed a good change!!

Freed - YIKES !!! Come on - He could have played ball at Freed when he was a freshman. Freed is just not the place. If Tennessee is drooling over Kemp - surely there is a future for Jarrett at D1 level. I haven't seen his baseball skills, but if they are only at Freed's level, I'd say that basketball is his sport.

    • Think he would be better suited to save our baseball program. We struggle to win 5 games a year but noone wants to talk about that. Could even coach from the fence across the creek should he continue in his extra curricular activities.
    • He probably works at the high school.
    • I'm going to say  1) Coalfield 2) Oz 3) Rockwood  4) Greenback
    • Mancoverage sez: This thread has been an absolute delight! Absolutely marvelous! Such eloquent and rosy prose, contained here in, is so seldom found amongst the more jocular subset of our species. The brilliant author behind such poetic use of an obviously deep and broad vernacular, reminds me of the other-worldly talents of Oscar Wilde. I humbly thank you, kind sir, for so generously sharing your elegantly loquacious gifts. The Goat sez: You better watch your back, Lord Byron, I’m sure poetry isn’t the only talent and passion that the author shares with Oscar Wilde.
