Rutledge wins 72-71 on a shot by Matt Day with 2 seconds left. Rutledge battled back from a 10pt 4th quarter deficit to get the big win. Brandon Soloman scored 20 for Rutledge, and is developing into the 3rd scoring option for the Pioneers. He could take a lot of pressure off of Singleton and Day down the stretch.

WOW! Much-needed district win for Rutledge. They scrapped and scrapped all game to just get the lead, much less win. Pigeon is still the team to beat though.

 

It does look as if teams better get ready to try a reverse triangle and two if Solomon keeps improving. I can't help but imagine what all he'd be doing if he hadn't sat out last year.

South Greene is 7-1 after a close win at GP last night which puts them in the drivers seat.

great game @ rutledge last night! theres no excuse for losing a 10 point lead with 2 and a half minutes to go but does anyone know why in the world 2.3 (or something around that) more seconds was put on the clock, cause if that wouldnt have been added the bucket by Day wouldnt have counted...wouldnt been enough time.

naw the refs had it all wrong. the 2 seconds were added because the whistle blew with 5.6 seconds on the clock. however the refs decided to put the time back up because thats when the ball went through the hoop. however, since rutledge and pigeon forge do not seem to be college teams, the clock does no stop on a made basket it only stops on the whistle. therefore, pf got screwed up the butt.

There were 1.9 seconds added to the clock by the officials because Coach Combs called for timeout with 7.3 seconds...we all know that reaction time is a little off when you've got atmosphere like that and there is a slight delay in the clock operator hitting the on/off button.

 

Which is why there are 3 officials at district games...one to watch the clock (in the last minute especially), two others to watch the action with one being near half court. Remember the coach can call time out from the sideline.

 

And Day put the shot up with 2+ seconds left...Coach Harper was trying to call a TO...if he had gotten it, it would have been a technical and Rutledge would have gotten 2 foul shots and the ball...which would have made it a 3-pt. win instead of a 1-pt. win. It was what it was: a whale of a game!

 

South Greene is in control of things for sure now. They're not invincible though...we've seen that no one is invincible in this district.

No...worse than Rutledge getting jerked by Coach Harper's favorite ref: Bill Wheeler...hard to win with a deck stacked against you prior to tipoff.

 

Like you said, no excuse when you blow a double digit lead in the 4th.

 

Go cry somewhere else.

just because a coach likes a ref doesnt mean hes all "buddy buddy" with him as you like to say maybe Wheelers the only half decent ref in the area and hasnt screwed them over yet? who knows? but i can tell you that Wheeler is not a personal favorite to anyone at Pigeon Forge, last year in the district tournaments coach Harper was half way out on the court on his knees in Wheelers face so I'm sure hes not a favorite, but this is enough about this topic move on.
