wushy101, you're pitching isn't very consistant. and that is what is going to hurt you. defensively, yall probably have the best outfield in middle tennessee. and you're going to need that with your pitching. and i don't kow if the young guys can play when thay have a little pressure on them. maybe they can.. i don't know. but it's a whole new ball game once you get into districts. by the way, where do you really think yall are going to finish in the district?

you said now yall have a coach that actually cares about lavergne.. well you had one before. and i heard that a lot of underclassmen were glad because he was gone. because they didn't get to play. and i thought you were one of them.

I do agree that LaVergne's outfield looks to be among the best, if not THE best! Question here is: why is everyone jumping Wushy about the comment about having coaches that actually care about LaVergne? He's not the one that made that comment, and he's DEFINITELY not hurting for playing time.

Just a thought, but you may want to check who says something before you jump their case...

And, LHSWRASSLIN - glad you're with us!

i can't say anything about revis because i've never played under him, but i do kno that our new coach isn't some player's dad or a washed up player looking for another taste of the glory days. he knows what he is doing because it shows in the way he runs our practices. alot of people are looking past him.

Here's my early take on LaVergne, fwiw, as parent of a senior transfer, who knows little about either history or the current competition.

I agree the outfield is the backbone of the team. That being said, I think there are others--I won't name names in order to avoid embarrassing both the individuals and potentially myself--who are capable of stepping up to add support.

Defense is good at all positions, including depth in infield and catcher.

Hitting will be decent 1-9, though without a lot of power.

A lot of kids can pitch, but none so far dominates. This is a question mark, given the short outfield fence. (But I do like the wide bleachers.)

I'm impressed with the way the coaches run practice, though I admittedly don't yet know them well enough to despise them (tongue in cheek)

I'm looking foward to the season, but selfishly wish my own flesh and blood would start swinging the bat.

I enjoyed the visit with a couple of contributors Saturday a.m. at Cracker Barrel.

I hope my last comment about pitching being a "question mark" for LaVergne wasn't a buzz killer. I didn't mean to imply I agree with Stealth Cowboy's earlier post about lack of pitching. I just said no one pitcher so far is dominating, which in my experience is often the difference between good and great high school teams. I think we'll be fine for pitching. We have depth but are short on experience, and it will take time for the leaders to emerge. That's all I meant and I hope no one took it differently.

Some of the threads here are for discussion, and some are trash talk. Mine is intended as the former. Just wanted to be clear.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
