Cleveland and Rhea County

Cleveland won an exciting game. It came down to the last secont lay-up in overtime by Rhea County that didn't fall. Jay Davis from Cleveland drew the charge as the horn sounded. Prior to that play, Cleveland missed two free throws that could've forced Rhea to hit a 3 to tie. Rhea rebounded the second missed freethrow and went coast to coast. Jay Davis stood his ground and took the charge. The referee at first signaled no call...but then signaled a charge as he was running off the court.

Neither team deserved to lose this one.

Yeah, it came down to a last second lay-up at the buzzer in overtime, but dispite the classic buzzer beater scenarios from movies and books, I wouldn't exactly call it an exciting game. Until overtime, there was not even a tense feeling in the crowd. No one seemed to care. A nice dunk by Little, although he had about 5 opportunities that he passed up. Little and Hyatt did not even guard each other the majority of the game. Not the classic showdown many people expected to see.

Thought the Ref running out with the Rhea coach on his coat-tails was rather funny though.

I just think it's amazing when a ref standing two feet from the play calls a jump ball under the basket...... and then is over-ruled by the ref standing at half court. Earlier on, the same ref who over-ruled that call seemingly missed an over and back call when standing in the same place! Also, the same ref called an obvious travel, a foul, again from further away than the ref closest to the action. All these calls would outweigh the no-call, or the charge at the end of the game.

    • You are correct.   The teacher's pay scale is virtually the same in Knox County, now, as it is at Oak Ridge.   The coaching supplements are still higher at Oak Ridge, from what I was told, but not a huge difference.   Plus, Rusty is going from a position coach to an OC position, which is what he was at South Doyle and where his comfort zone is.  And from a special education teaching slot to a PE teaching slot.  There is a lot of positivity in that move without even considering the coaching aspect.   Anybody who sees something negative here is just looking for negativity to begin with.  But some live in that world.   Really good hire for Brent.  He now has two experienced and quality coordinators and can concentrate on being a head football coach.
    • He was pretty darn good for a freshman, but he will have a hard time seeing the field at Oakland for a good while, I’m afraid.
    • Dang I feel bad for the kid. I’m sure he loves his dad and wants to do anything for his dad but I don’t think he realizes his dad isn’t doing the best for his football career if he keeps jumping schools.
    • I’m not taking shots at the kid, but “athlete” is not something I would use to describe him. He was a long, lengthy, defensive back
    • Mistakes like that should never happen.
