so you'd rather do away with AD's and have individual coaches deal with bus scheduling, referee scheduling, concessions, gate money, tickets, security, cleanup, paperwork, banquets, parking, game contracts, fundraiser organization, booster club contact, programs, finances, athletic account bookkeeping, budgets, etc, etc , etc

 

a good AD is a coaches dream to take away all the above nightmares that DETRACT from the actual coaching time a coach puts in

 

in 90% of all the hirings and firings the AD isn't the SOLE decision maker

It can be a coaches nightmare if the AD is incompetent....... <_<

 

In today's world it seems like it is a must....3pointer makes a good observation. The AD should have very little input on the hiring of coaches though, that should be a principal's job in my opinion.....just my two cents.
