12U AAU National Scores

Recommended Posts

Spree1024,

Yes, I'm at the tournament. More news about TN teams. The W TN Tigers continue on in the winners bracket by beating the Tukwila Reign. They play the Garner Flames today at 1:45 PM. Speed and quickness against speed and quickness. Should be great game.

The Memphis Elite lost to the #2 seed Oklahoma Select. They jumped out to an 8 point lead from the tip off. Couldn't hold the lead, but only trailed by 1 at half. Foul trouble and the worst shooting I've seen this team had, led to the 13 point loss. They play the New York Silver Bullets today at Noon. Then another game at 7PM against the winner of the Eclipse and Mission Rec. Center if they beat the bullets.

The Tigers are in the Elite 8. If the Elite win today, they will join the Tigers in that medal group.

TN should be proud.

Well, it's all over. Fairfax Stars are now the new National Champs. Oklahoma, the team that put the Memphis Elite in the loser's bracket will be the 2 seed. Fairfax is an excellent team with a game dominating player in #4. I understand from talking to a team in their association, though, that if (that's a big if) you can get 4 in foul trouble, the team is beatable. Oklahoma is just big, strong, and aggressive. When they fall behind, they get angry not panicked at all.

The W TN Tigers ended up in the top 8 in the country while the Memphis Elite is a top 12 team. One correction from my earlier report: Memphis Elite played the Red Stick Rockets, not the Silver Bullets. Red Stick put them out of the tournament with one player - a number 32 - a big and quick post player. The Elite did not have anyone to match up with her. The W TN Tigers were knocked out by Kansas City Eclipse (most are the old KC Belles). With 25 seconds left in the game and the Tigers down by 1, a foul was called on one of their players and a tech on the Tiger coach. The Eclipse player missed the 1st two but made the next two and it was over.

As for the gyms. The gyms I saw were great. Never seen so many top quality school gyms in the same area. (You did have to do a lot of driving to get to them. though}. The central gym, Dobyns Bennet, was lacking. I don't think any of the players liked the gym although it was comfortable for the fans. The advertising behind the goals and the cavernous nature of the gym made it difficult to shoot in. I believe that's what happened to the Elite team shooting against OK.

I wasn't at this event but heard from plenty who had been there. From what I know it sounded like the ugliest event at the tournament. It was Shelbyville vs. the W TN Tigers. From what I understand, about 75% of the gym were yelling for the Tigers. Some yelling and screaming between the parents and at coaches of both teams occurred. 3 or 4 Shelbyville parents were thrown out of the game - rightly or wrongly, I don't know. But, apparently the police were called because there was fear that something would happen in the parking lot after the game. Nothng did happen from what I heard.

glass eye,

If your report is accurate, this is really an embarrassing and poor representation for the SE/TN assoc. DO PARENTS realize they represent our state on a National level. It's hard to think that adults would conduct themselves like this at Nationals. Memphis folks, keep your dirty laundry and ill feelings towards each other in Memphis, it doesn't belong at the AAU NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS... PARENTS really need to get a GRIP...

I did not mean to suggest that the Memphis people were at fault. I'm not sure how you arrived at that conclusion. Are you aware of something that happened at the game that I am not aware of?

From what I was told by several people who were there, the gym was full of teams and parents including Alabama, Tn Elite, Tukwila (probably scouting the Tigers), Memphis Elite, and of course Tiger parents - not just from Memphis. I was not aware of anything being said against Shelbyville. I do know the local paper in Kingsport was following Shelbyville closely and gave that team a lot of coverage - even stating that #14 for Shelbyville was among the top 5 players in the nation according to the Shelbyville coach who was quoting some internet site. This is just a theory, but all that exposure in the paper may have not been such a good idea - especially that part about #14. My guess is that there were some players who felt they were as good or better and that statement got the competitive juices flowing extra. It might have been better to stay low like the Memphis Elite. They were state champs and there was no mention - except scores - about them or their players in the local news. I don't think the paper even identified them as state champs.

If you're thinking there was bad blood because of the Memphis girls playing for Shelbyville, I think you're mistaken. The Memphis ppl I talked to before nationals didn't have anything against the two Memphis players playing for Shelbyville or for the TN Elite before that. In fact, they said they wished them well. They didn't pick the girls up because they wanted to go with the girls that got them to Nationals not because they had anything against the two players. Do you know if that attitude changed?

But, again, I wasn't at the game. If you know something, please let us know.

Spree, I was at this game, and your accusations against the Memphis parents are completely false.. Actually , a couple of Shelbyville kids said something to the refs which led to them getting escorted out of the gym.. There were several teams in the gym cheering for the Tigers and all they were doing was cheering.. So Spee, you might need to be the one to get a GRIP!

I agree with Spree1024. I was not there but here is what I know. That every time Shelbyville Sport Shop played TN teams where cheering against them. It's sad to see that we can not support each other in something that we could have bring home either for Memphis , Knoxville, or Middle TN. These are just 12 yr old girls playing a game that they love to play and are good at it.

Also in the Kingston paper the Tigers coach said he was glad his team was a over looked team. Well I know that the parents of SSS knew the Tigers had a good team all year they just had some injured players at the wrong time at state. The coaches may have over looked them but I don't believe so. The Bulls are a good team also and it was a tough game as I told everyone. The Memphis Elite beat SSS at the State soundly. The TN Elite did not have a good state but did have a good regional. So I believe SSS had respect for the other teams in the State. It just sad to see people take things out on 12 yr old girls when they have problems with another coach.

Those that got ask to leave were not parents but fans. Not sure what was said or why. My wife was to far way to hear. But the calling of the games was rough. This was my child first Nationals and I figured that the officiating would be top notch. You would bring in the best officals from all over AAU to bo this. I was glad to hear that they had three on the court.

Well its over now and we all go back home and wait for your Jr. High to begin. And come back next year and hopefully we get this many TN teams in it and bring the National Championship to Tennessee. We have REAL GOOD TEAMS IN OUR STATE

I'm sure that some of you will not agree with me but this is what I understand what happen. If you can enlight more please do so

With one exception, I can't dispute that every time Shelbyville played that TN teams were cheering against them because I did not follow Shelbyville. As a Memphis Elite parent, however, I know that the Elite was not at the Tiger game to cheer against Shelbyville but to cheer FOR the Tigers - a fellow Memphis team. I have noticed a lot of negative reaction to Shelbyville and its coaches on this board and from conversations at Nationals. Maybe like glasseye mentioned it's all that talk about Shelbyville in the local paper that got everyone going. Maybe it's what is posted on this message board. I don't know.

Please, Sidetrain, if you're not sure of something that is especially negative, then don't say it. If a Memphis Elite coach was quoted in some newspaper downing Shelbyville girls then you can check the internet versions of those papers and come back to this site and tell us all about it. Give us the site address and I'll be the first to check it out. Should be easy to check out. There's only one paper in Memphis, the Commercial Appeal and one in Kingsport.

From my discussions with the coaches and from knowing them I can't believe what you say is accurate. Give me some proof. I know that our coaches were never contacted by the media at nationals. We were state champs and not a word was printed. 14, who was written about as a top 5 player in the nation, was pretty well stopped by the Elite - nothing said about that. The coaches also did not spend any time at the media center from what they told me. In fact, they were ok with not being in the spotlight. None of the parents contacted the media. And as far as I know most of us post very little on this board.

If you want us all to get along and I have no reason to believe that you don't, then be careful about what you post. Your post is one of the rare ones that mention the Memphis Elite. But what you have to say is negative and, until you can prove otherwise, it's inaccurate as far as I'm concerned.

I'm sorry that it come out that way. The girl from Memphis was told that the coach said it but it was the coach of the tigers. If it was wrong then I was wrong but they got a call from a family member in Memphis. That is the reason I asked someone to enlight me. I was not meant to be negative to anyone because The girls on ALL the teams in Teams are good. It is nice that the memphis teams support each other. And your right if I was not there I should have kept out of it. These are things that my daugther and wife felt when they were there. We as my family do not run down any team or player. If I come off do that I am really sorry to all those that feel that way.

I've always respected your posts. I respect them even more so now.

Thanks.

By the way. This was our third time at Nationals. What you said about the officials allowing rough play has been true every year we go. I expect that next year will be even rougher with the girls having one more year behind them and a chance to get even stronger. I think the strength, aggressiveness Oklahoma and the lack of calls for our girls when they went inside really hurt us. No excuse, though. If we hit some free throws things could have been different.

Philtenn, you can lie all you want, but the fact is, your team did come to rally against Shelbvyille. Some of your team, the Tigers team, and the Tennessee Elite were at the Shelbyville game rallying against Shelbyville when they played East TN Lady Bulls. Of course as a parent, I can't speak for all of our parents, nor can you, but the truth is, everyone in TN was hoping Shelbyville would get put out! As far as the media, it does not concern you nor anyone else on your team the coverage that is given a player. Our #14 deserves the attention she gets just as much as any other good player! As far as the local papers, none of us can control that, so leave it alone!!!!

As far as the Memphis Tigers, I was ashamed to say we are in the same state. Your coach was talking the talk, and as far as the game, it was a good game, but your parents were as ugly as any!!! And as far as the bashing is concerned, it was your fans who was acting like children, and for the fan that said and I quote "Shelbyville Who".......let me tell you who Shelbyville is, we are the 14-time AAA State Champions, and National contenders. Our coach, Rick Insell, is two-time National Coach of the year, so there is your reality check!!! How many scholarships has your coaches given to the players, including those playing AAU? Check out Shelbyville's website for those he has sent, you may decide to relocate! This is the first year the Shelbyville team has been together, and we will be back!!!

For the Memphis Elite, I watched your games, and would be the first to say you have a great set of supporters, who keep it clean. That is what all teams should be like. I hate you didn't go further, but I am glad to see the Tigers put out! So "Na Na NA, Hey Hey, Good bye!!!

    • Hmmmmm……doe dee doe doe….i drove the lawnmower down to practice today…….hmmmm…… we got some new faces………. One can run faster than my lawnmower in fifth gear…… a few will be disappointed come November that they jumped ship and went down to that sewage facility……. You can bet the lawnmower on that.
    • I don't know what's going on in the town of McMinnville, but I've read this and it's disturbing.  I'm a "player" person, and I want what's best for the player. If a player gets cut off the team because she said the "F word" then good grief. I mean, come on guys. I wish there was a way for the player to transfer to a different program and just play ball. There are a lot of athletes that are stuck because they're in crappy situations regarding their team/coach. This is player just happens to be one them.
    • Won't happen. College coaches will back the coach every time and it cost this young lady her senior season. Looks like the player may be right on this one. School let her  go after one season. This stuff happens more than you think.
    • “No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team.” For language? I’m not seeing that as a dealbreaker.
    • Why did the coach get rehired after she was let go as an assistant by the former Warren County coach and the current AD?? Is that accurate?? I am very familiar with situations like this. Suprised lawsuits haven't happend before. If the coach unfairly let the player go, I think she has a shot because it cost her a scholarship. No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team. Not going to happen. There are bad hires like this a bunch and kids are treated unfairly by coaches that can't coach a lick and have super long ropes somehow. Amazing how some of these coaches get hired and keep their job.
